Z4 coming in December and a question

Hello!!!

I placed an order for a Z4 20i MSport over the weekend - prettly big options list, so I now need to wait until it's built with expected delivery in December.

Sanfran red with ivory leather, tech pack, comfort plus, M Sport Pro and also stuck with black gloss trim rather than the odd diamond aluminium stuff.

Quick question - Parking assist (as part of the tech pack)- according to the online configurator, this means that the car will parallel park itself, and reverse assist will steer the car for you when reversing short distances (I've cut and paste the relevant bit from the website below:

Parking Assistant includes the Rear view camera, Lateral parking aid, Active Park Distance Control as well as the Parking and Reversing Assistant. The Rear View camera provides a clearer view behind the vehicle. The Lateral parking aid uses additional sensors to monitor the areas to the sides of the vehicle and to represent obstacles on the Control Display. Park Distance Control, provides support in reverse parking situations to avoid collisions. Parking Assistant uses linear guidance to park the vehicle automatically into and out of parallel parking spaces. The system measures potential spaces while driving past them at a low speed and at a maximum distance of 1.5m from the row of parked vehicles. Once a sufficiently sized parking space has been found, you only have to turn on the indicator and the Parking Assistant takes over the steering, selects the correct gear and accelerates. You only have to monitor the parking procedure. Parking Assistant emits an audible signal when the parking process is over, and shifts gear into 'P'. Pulling out of parallel parking spaces works in the same way. Reversing Assistant records a road you have driven forwards so that it can reverse the vehicle in the same direction if you wish.

Is this the case on 2020 newly built cars?

Can't wait until December - shame it will probably be awful weather by then!!
 
Sounds like a nice car and nice spec. San Fran is a very good colour to have.
With regards to the parking. I think they’ve updated this and amended the packs slightly.
I dont have the lateral parking aid but have a rear view camera, APDC and the reversing assistant. I still cant quite work out what this is for. I think the parking assistant was included in something else before. Or perhaps its different between the 20/30/M40i...

I’m sure there will be some cold, sunny days in December and you’ll have chance to get out enjoy some top down motoring. Whereabouts are you based?

I have the tech pack on my G29, I really only wanted it for the HUD and HK sound system, which are both good.

I have never used the parking assistant, I somehow don't want to put my trust into it and would prefer to park manually TBH. However the inclusion of the rear view camera (which is only obtainable with the parking assistant) is great to have and I have learned to put my faith into it :)

I actually only ordered the tech pack for the HK - I was quite dissapointed with the stock speakers in the demo car we had, and have a Bose system in my current car (an Audi). Glad you rate the HK system!

Our z4 30i has the tech pack. Reverse assist is great when I feel lazy and want to reverse out our drive. Just need to have come in the Opposite direction to the way I want to go out next. Only tried the park assistant once in an empty car park and it got between the lines but as there was no car in the bay behind it kept going and was half way in the next bay. It’s definitely faster to park yourself unless your no good at it I guess. I want to find a quite road to try the parallel parking. Not sure I trust it not to curb the alloys.
 
Mine arrived on Oct 27 and went back the same day, brake failure and zero parts available to replace. BMW claim production line is no longer in Z4 mode in order to explain why when they delivered a car that wasn’t roadworthy they can’t fix it for 8 weeks.

Hope you don’t get the same nonsense when yours arrives.
 
FYI. In red it looked like this once I’d nursed it home prior to the BMW assist unlocking the parking brake which at that point had decided to lock on.

be careful when testing out the reversing thing, if you start on your driveway and then use the reverse thing to get back on it doesnt automatically stop where you started and the car keeps going backwards. I almost backed my test car into a tree :D

The parking assist stops automatically if something comes too close to the car, and works for parallel parking and sideways parking, but it is a lot faster to park it yourself. I never use it, the reversing assistant is something i use occasionally.

That doesn’t sound good at all! You’re very much the exception than the norm as G29 owners appear very happy overall, apart from minor issues as is the case with all new cars. Im guessing it was a new order build to you? If so, you will/should be driving around in you pick of the BMW range given the issues with your brand new car. In my experience BMW have stepped in and ensured the customer is well looked after in circumstances such as this. If not, get onto Customer Services ASAP! Hope it gets sorted.

Give the HK time to bed in and loosen up. I was very underwhelmed with it when I first got the car. It’s taken time for the sound quality to improve and oddly a software update helped as well. The door for the ski hatch vibrates on mine, along with the bulkhead where the speakers are mounted.... so I’ve had to stuff it with an old puffer jacket. Hardly ideal but there we are.
 
Mine is brand new (1 week old) and has those exact same features. Still used any of the parking aids yet - probably quite unnecessary tbh but fun to have!!
