Z4 cigarette lighter not charging anything

Hi All,

I've literally just bought a 2003 2.5l Z4 and it is such a fun car to drive.

Unfortunately the cigarette lighter doesn't appear to charge any devices that all work in other cars. These include iPhone chargers and a new Tom Tom charger.

The fuse has been checked and is fine.

I know the cigarette lighter is absolutely fine as I rather stupidly touched it with a screw driver and got a nice shock when it sparked. The fuse has been replaced as I blew it doing that. My father-in-law laughed his head off.

From reading other forums and posts it seems like a common problem. I haven't seen a solution however. Someone has suggested this part number but I don't know what it relates to: Part number is 61 34 6 977 682. You get a lot of options for all sorts of bits and pieces when you google it.

Does anyone know what I need to buy to make the cigarette lighter work? Is it something I fix myself.

if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks and enjoy your Sunday.

Chris

Get a splitter that has a pilot light on it and if the light is on, it's working. Then plug your peripherals into the splitter....

I use them in all my cars and they all work, the only thing I've found is that some charger units don't have enough power to charge certain things such as iPads , you need to check the wattage output and make sure it can handle the load. A phone should be dead easy..

cheers

More than likely the plug into the lighter socket you're using isn't making proper contact. many of them are cheap and nasty so make sure you have a good one fitted....if theres power at the socket then it should definitely charge the devices you're talking about, so lack of contact is the only likely issue IMHO....

+1

Cheers for the replies everyone. Just got back from holiday. Will have a look at the splitter as the contact seems to be good. I pushed the prongs in slightly to make sure there was good contact and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'll report back.
