Z4 buying Advice re water tightness of roof

Looking to purchase a roadster for my wife shortly and i must admit to having a concern about overall water tightness.

We stay in the far Northwest of scotland and it rains a LOT up here, some times driving rain!

The car will likely spend a fair bit of time out doors and as such it needs to be able to withstand the weather year round.

Appreciate some feedback as to how water tight they are please and anything to watch out for when inspecting possible purchases (i really dont want to buy one, get it home and find its leaking).

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
Follow the link in my signature for a pre owned buyers guide which may assist you. As for watertightness many on the forum have their cars parked on the roadside/driveway ad only a very few issues with water ingress.

Good luck in your search  - any particular model you are going for?

The only thing you'd have to keep on top of is clearing the softtop drains... A very simple task, guides are on here, which should be done annually.... Although mine spends most of its life outdoors and never had any issues, and i've inly cleaned the drains once ever in 4 years!

As above, I cleaned the drains when I first got it, and never had any issues..

The car lives outside in Central Scotland, so has a lot of rain to deal with and - so far - has been perfect.

Thanks guys, that's reassuring. I am in two minds as I have a high powered Caterham which gets used for the odd track day. It's either a 3.0 say around 2006 age and keep the Caterham or else get an M and sell the Caterham, possibly tending towards the later right now but know I will miss the Caterham if it goes!

Out of interest, what mods would you make to an M if it were to do the odd track day - brake conversion?

Also, any issues to watch for on Ms in particular?
