Just on Facebook and see this, I have never seen a bonnet catch go this bad.

I've had a problem with mine too, had a hell of a job to release the bonnet yesterday. Finally managed to get the 'safety' catch to move so I could open bonnet, spent a good hour cleaning and greasing the pivot pin. All now OK.

Fancy sharing what you did / used to clean it?

Yes please! I struggled to get mine open, finally did and emptied halfa can of wd40 in there until I get some grease.
Does any old off-the-shelf grease work?

Had the same issue with mine a couple of weeks ago, bonnet 'popped' when I pulled the lever but the safety catch was impossible to release.

A good tip for anyone in a similar boat is to use a length of sturdy wire (I used a coat hanger!) and hook it around the safety catch through the gap between the bonnet and the bumper. A quick tug to the right and it released quite easily. Then cleaned and greased and had no problems since.

What is the consensus on the correct way to close the bonnet? I always close softly and then push closed with the palms of my hand but have seen some people just dropping the bonnet the last 30cm or so and letting gravity do the work.

I think that roadster is trying to tell us something...

...That it would rather be a coupe! :fuelfire:

£1000 worth of repairs!!!, a new bonnet is more than that alone, let alone the paint, labour, replacement side glass etc etc
