Z4 - bike rack recommendations?

Gents,

I live in Croatia, and I have limited access to bike racks, well, only Thule is a good brand here. And my question is simple, I am an amateur MTB rider, and besides my Mini One, I have Z4, and I would like to occasionally transport my MTB and maybe girlfriends with my Z4.

I had a bike rack on my old Miata, but it doesn't fit well on Z4, and it is not compatible with Mini.

Any recommendations? I would like to hear about your experience.

I've tried a few bike racks but the best imo is the Saris Bones 3 which I usually use for 2 MTB's. Having the 3 bike mounting points means you can leave the middle position vacant and have more space to arrange 2 bikes with pedals attached.
3 wheels plus gear goes in the boot. 1 front wheel goes on top of the bikes tied down with an extra bungee cord.
Never had any issues and works great.

The only minor design flaw are the 6 plastic ratchet ties at each mounting point. They're friction-fit and on one occasion I saw that the 2 holding my bike had slid sideways, presumably as a result of g-force on a bend. As a precaution to them coming off completely I simply used 6 tiewraps to secure them in place.
I also protect the paintwork by wrapping the strap brackets with old rubber innertube and 4 pieces of rubber matting go between the bodywork and feet of the rack.

And another vote for the Saris Bones 2 from me - got one a couple of months ago, for use with a hire bike when I was on holiday - its great.

Best bike carrier I've ever had, not the cheapest solution but it's very effective and has an integrated changing room with storage for Stank infested riding gear.

2Dark Diggler: best bike carrier ever, as I said, I have Mini One also, but sometimes girlfriend and I want to go with Zed for a weekend with MTB's. :)

Saris Bones 2- agree with other members. Holds solidly. If you get it, do ensure the car body is free of dust/grit otherwise you will end up with scratches.
 
Thanks Jamturbo, I have experience with my previous bike rack and Miata, I always cleaned the surface and put a soft damper between the rack and the car (metal).
