ive got 2 cars first is a 1.8 Corsa SRi and the other is my Z, you would think the corsa would be way more practicle day to day, but i use the Z anyway and think its just as good ;-) nothing like a heated seat on cold morning ;-) currntly says ive got 30.3MPG although that does include some motorway miles. plus i love plulling into work and everything asking why im driving my dads car lol

The kit I bought was approx £55 from ebay. I bought two - one for the van and one for the wife's Fabia - but might sell the wife's kit as we're likely to be selling her car on in the next 6 months. I'll keep you posted if you're interested.
Watch this space: I'm in the process of retro-fitting a heated seat kit into standard leather Z4 seats - but they're for my campervan (see signature...), not my Z4. So far I've removed the seat covers, fitted the pads, and refitted the covers: I've yet to sort out the wiring fully. I've removed seat covers before (fitting a new occupancy mat) and it's not difficult, just fiddly as hell but fine if you have the patience to get it rightly tensioned afterwards. I've been taking photos of the project so far when I've remembered and will post up once done. Obviously the switches don't match the rest of the vehicle plus as yet I've got no idea how effective they'll be compared to the OEM heated seats in my Z4, but for the money I'm hoping they're decent enough.soundguy said:

What are the main differences between the pre / facelift models other than the front bumper?
Upping my budget to 7k might get me a facelift like the following:

Post face lift models have a different rear bumper and lights. They also have a 'sport' trim (pre facelifts don't have a sport trim option). Not sure exactly what that comprised of on the different engine variants. Better wheels and sports suspension I think.
Re the engine - there are two 2.5s post facelift. The 2.5i @ 170bhp and the 2.5si at 217bhp. Test drive a few before buying and you'll get a feel for how quick they are

And in the US, FYI, the two facelift models are the 3.0i (215 hp) and 3.0si (255 hp). The facelift version also had the SMG transmission discontinued, a retuned standard suspension for better ride quality, a revised final-drive ratio for improved acceleration and updated styling. http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/z4/

i test drove both the 3.0 and the 2.5. the 3.0 won hands down, i 'm lazy about changing gears and the extra torque of the 3.0 suits my driving style. You get a 6th gear as well so fuel consumption is better (well thats what i keep telling myself)

I use my Z4 as a daily driver here in Texas (put around 10k miles on the clock this year). As a previous poster mentioned, a 2nd car would have to be pretty special to make you miss a day in the Z (of course, my second car is a restored '65 Mustang- so occasionally I do take the Pony instead ).
If you need some trunk space, consider the 3.0si coupe (that's what I have)- there's actually quite a bit of room back there (the M coupe moves the battery up into the trunk- losing considerable storage space).

Sunny, hot Texas. And you have a coupe :scratchhead: Stangs are cool. Used to own a '69' 302 convertible. Black paint, red inside, White power top. I wish I had a picture to post. But since you still have yours. :worthless:
Okay, here are the pics (didn't want to put a bunch of pics that were unrelated to the OPs questions, but since you asked :^)...
This is my 2007 3.0si Z4 coupe (purchased about a year ago to replace the Saab 9-3 Aero convertible in the background of the Mustang pic). So far, she's been flawless and fun- although I can't wait to wear the run-flats a bit further and replace them with real tires! The sport package makes her handle like a dream (just wish I had the M seats). Yeah, she's an automatic- but I-35 in Dallas is bumper to bumper nearly every day!
This is "Kay," my 1965 Mustang. I purchased her from the original owner (in considerably rougher shape than she's in right now) about 2 months prior to picking up the Z4, and proceeded to strip the exterior & interior down to a metal shell. After some media blasting, a surprisingly small amount of bodywork, and a fresh coat of Silver Smoke Metallic (a rarely ordered original factory color), I put everything back together myself (including upholstering the seats- probably the single hardest job of the resto). Other than swapping out a modern 5 speed for the original 3 speed, she's completely stock with a straight 6 (same firing order as my Z4, I believe :^), and factory A/C (important in Texas).
They live quite happily together in my garage- every morning I enjoy deciding between The Ultimate Driving Machine and the most prolific car ever produced by Detroit (actually, Kay was built in the San Jose plant, and trust me- no one would ever confuse a car with drum brakes and a 3.6L engine that puts out 120hp with an "ultimate driving machine"). The dice aren't usually there, except when we go to a cruise event. Best of both worlds!
