Z4 and other road users

Hi there,
I got my first Z4 last Wednesday... I'll post pics next weekend, promise. It's a 2.5Si in saphire black with light grey leather seats. I'm chuffed to bits!
But in the few days I have been driving it I have noticed a lot of agressive driving from other road users around me.
I haven't had this before with my more normal 'family cars'... it must be the Z4

Do you have the same problem? It could get a bit tiresome!!!

Nice to meet you all. Already picked up some great advice by reading this forum, even before I purchased the new car.

My initial niggle with the car are the seat belt rubbing on my neck, funny how you don't spot this on the test drive. Apart from that I'm in heaven.

Best wishes

Seggy

Can't say I've had any aggression from others. No more than usual anyway

But I do have issues with the seatbelt. I sit quite low, so thought that might be causing it. Plus I'm not the tallest.

Funny you should mention this; thought it was just me! Owned my 3.0 now for 3 weeks and have people driving aggressively towards me, cutting me up in traffic jams and not letting me out/across junctions etc. I'm putting this down to pure, undiluted jealousy of my design classic auto - either that or it's my face; but then I haven't been punched for ages :!:

So all the idiots are proving how good they are by passing you, cutting you off, just being jerks. Get used to it.
It happened in my Z3 then it stopped in my M3 because it looked like an ordinary E46 to the "Great Unwashed" out there, it started again as soon as I got the new Zed. Learn to ignore them, it drives them crazy if you don't even acknowledge their existence.

Raise your seat up so your head is a hands width from the roof, the belt issue should go away. If not, get surgery? :D :D :D :D

:driving: :driving: :tumbleweed:

Good advice. Next time I'll look straight through them Dirty Harry style. Maybe add an over exaggerated laugh and really wind them up

Hi and welcome to the forum first of all
I find get a bit of this when i'm out and about in the Zed and it does get a bit tiring, you are right what you say when you are in a normal car i.e the GF's Fiat 500 we find we get no hassle at all.I don't think it is soley a Zed thing but a descent car thing that green eyed monster called Jealousy, the nutters always seem to be from the shallow end of the gene pool.Try not to let them spoil your enjoyment of a fantastic car

Regarding the seat belt i know what you mean not a problem if you have someting with a collar but if you are just wearing a T shirt then you do get a bit of rubbing, the GF has a shoulder pad on her belt which keeps her happy but it does stop the belt from retracting properly so you have to keep pulling the pad down to let the belt retract.

Laughing at them is really good, just make sure you can get away if they go nuts on you.....

Congrats on the new car.

I also have noticed the same thing from drivers around me. On my mountain drive saturday, there was a double lane for a long uphill section. I generally stay to the outside unless passing. Next thing I know a prius driver has their foot to the carpet to pass. I was already 5MPH over the speed limit. It just amazes me that driver after driver in cars that haven't any possible way to beat %80 of the autos on the road, are usually the ones that try to have a go with anyone they meet. I usually will let them pass then pick up the pace. Thereby egging them on to go faster yet. :poke: That way they will be the one explaining to the patrolman why they were speeding. But officer, I just HAD to show up that dammed BMW driver.

I also noticed the same thing concerning the belt. I may try a sheepskin pad to avoid irritation. As I'm new to the car, I may have to experiment a little with seat position.

Can't say Ive noticed anything like what you mention from other drivers :?

Reminds me of the Field Operator (in our Oil company), taking his 5 yr drivers license renewal course . When asked if he ever got upset or a little "road raged" when someone passed him on the highway he answered quite seriously " I don't know, it's never happened."

I noticed it when I first got the car :- I had a Vectra that seemed hell bent on beating my off the lights. Since he was going straight on and I was turning left, it wasn't ever a contest. That sort of thing happened a couple of times, but since having it for a while I've not picked up on any of it. Last week though a real shed of a Nissan Sunny came tearing up behind me in a 40 zone. Dropped into a 30 zone where I do 30 and no-one else seems to and he was swerving around behind me, eventually flooring it past. Wouldn't put that down to the Z4 though, just put that one down to the idiots that are out there and would treat you the same regardless of what you're driving. Morale of the story IMO :- some will be out to get you, some are just tossers.

Don't get me wrong, I get glances, but they are more admiring than agressive. You will always get those wanting to race off from the lights - I just let 'em get on with it - rather have 'em in front than hassling from behind anyway (until they slow me up of course  ) This 'racing' happens regardless of what car Im driving though

I get this from time to time - especially from twat bus drivers that expect me to mount curbs to let them pass narrow roads.

Just learn to deal with it.

It's not just the Z, there are clowns everywhere. I commute on a reasonably powerful motorbike, and I get plonkers wanting to race that too - just got to learn to chill (or open it up for a few second to make the point! )

RE: the Field Operator, that was in the days before "In Vehicle Monitoring" when Oil company (all the oil company) trucks were notorious for driving too fast all the time....
It's a lot different now, you can tell who has the "chip" and who doesn't, ..
Ours "Alarm" at 112-115kmh and give audible beeps and automatically download time, speed date etc. when they come back to the Plant. (they track speeding, hard acceleration, braking, wheel spin).

We are NEVER rude in a company vehicle, the big clamshell on the side will get you fired in a heartbeat. Bad PR you know....

Careful !! The last idiot on a bike trying to race me gave up at 235kmh, he was riding my bumper as I passed a slow vehicle on an open country road with miles of visibility. I let him pass a little later, even an M can't beat a crotch rocket in acceleration.... :poke: :D :D

Yep, it's the initial punch that gives the bike the edge - then slowly aero takes over and the car catches up (or in my case the scenery gets too blurry/scary and I release my grip on the throttle a little!)
