Z4 and iphone no longer compatible!? FIXED - now works!!!

Hi all

I have updated my original iPhone to the 2.0 software and to my horror, the car will still pair with the phone over the car's bluetooth system, but I can't see the address book any more.

This is seriously disappointing! Has anyone else had the same issue. Apparently this is the same for the 3G version!

really!?? I have seen it seems to be a common problem on BMWs - I did a google but no solutions so far. Have you updated to the new software, released last weekend?

hi,

I'm running the v2 software and it all works fine, address book incoming calls, outgoing. I haven't re paired it, would try it but daren't in case that's the problem.

Bear in mind my coupe is newish has the BMW firmware been updated!

LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY!!! lol

Seems to be a common prob! I had to re-pair mine as I got a replacement for a faulty handset. Wierd, eh!?
When was your coupe registered?

march this year, but it was in a showroom September last year.

Who knows, the sales guy said the iPhone wouldn't work full stop :)

My new 3G iPhone pairs, but no address book. Mrs F has a original iPhone with 2.0 software, I'll check to see if she gets the address book - I think so, becasue when I called her earlier, she knew it was me calling.

David - what exactly do you mean when you say your 3G iPhone pairs?

I also have a new one and it says it has "paired" in the settings on the phone but I just get a "Please Wait!" message when I go into the Telephone menu on the screen in the car, which means I can't actually make any calls on it.

I took it in to BMW this morning and they seemed to think I might need to upgrade the software in the car (at a cost of £164!!!) but could not guarantee that this would work.

I then spoke to the people in the O2 store where I purchased the phone, who couldn't help and told me to contact customer support.

"Customer support" informed me that the only device the 3G iPhone is compatible with is the iPhone Bluetooth Headset and nothing else will work until Apple bring out an upgrade to the bluetooth software... :headbang:

So before I spend over 160 quid on an upgrade that won't actually help, I was wondering if anyone had actually managed to successfully pair a new 3G iPhone and make calls on it? (With or without address book!)

I mean 'BMW ULF' successfully came up in my list of devices on my iPhone - I don't drive the car every day, and rarely use the phone when in it, so haven't actually tried yet! I'll have a go as soon as I can and let you know how I get on with it.

David.

Ah, that's as far as I can get too!

According to O2 customer support the fact that it comes up as one of your devices and even says "paired" does not actually mean that it has paired at all...!

Thanks in advance for checking - I look forward to hearing the result!

Cheers,

Paul

Yes - I get the same - works very well on everything apart from browsing address book and making calls from the car.

When inside the car, I have to choose the number from the phone and then can hang up and receive calls via the steering wheel control.

Basically all works apart from address book. Bloomin annoying. Lets hope Apple make a fix ASAP!

I have just looked on there and it seems one chap had the BMW software update and it now works. I really don't see why they can't guarantee that it worked!?
All they need to do it test it for us at the dealership and then we will cough up and get it done :headbang:

Anyway, I may well do the same as you lawnmower_man - not got much time on my hands at the moment. If you beat me to it, let me know how you get on!

My original iPhone was upgraded to 2.0 software. Everything works fine and the address book is available. My dealer reflash my bluetooth module because I had problem pairing with V3xx. The dealer should reflash without charge if it is under warrantly.

Just tested again ... my wife's original iPhone updated to v2.0 works fine ... but my 3G pairs (apparently), but doesn't work.

David.

Andy - That is exactly what happens with mine so please let us know how it goes with the stealer.

For me, it's the £164 question...!!!

Cheers,

Paul
