Z4 85 Convertible Hood not Responding

Hi everyone,
I'm sure this problem has been raised before but I can't find a thread for it.
So I would like to pick your brain and ask:
Following the replacement of the Hydraulic Motor in the boot I have no function at all of anything when pressing the buttons to open or close the Hood. (At lest before the replacement, the Locking motor was operating) I have checked the boot switch and seems well in place with the little metal piece that I put back as it had dropped but can it still be the cause of nothing operating if the switch is faulty?. I have been told that the relay is ok and so are the fuses.
So now i'm left with no other options and can't afford to take it to a BMW Dealer.
Any suggestions will be very welcome.
Best Regards
Alex

Don't take it to the main dealers. There are forum members who fix roadster hoods for a fraction of main dealer costs or will suggest obvious fixes for you to try. Including a location in your profile will help advising who is nearest to you.

Oah; by the way welcome to the forum and where have you been - like yellow pages we were here for the good bits not just when it all go tits up. So why not make a second post in the Newbies section and introduce yourself and a pic of your car. Roadster owner - well done

[ref]markplant[/ref], Hi thanks for your tip. The windows do not drop and the rear shelf is lowered by Just wondering if the switch is faulty this could affect totally any power going through?

[ref]Crazy Harry[/ref], Hi thanks for your welcome message. I just owned a Z4 recently and decided to look up a forum to search for other owners to share some experience and problems, Shall keep the profile update . Thank You

If the windows don't drop it's almost certainly to do with the switch, I have seen the metal tab but back incorrectly in a switch making it inoperable, you could just try shorting the 2 wires or the switch together an see if this works

Do you get any red or orange lights at the roof operating buttons when you're trying to open/close your roof? Are the connectors definitely connected to the spade terminals on the motor?

If it un clips from the windscreen it is probably the little plunger under the black plastic arm on the side of the pump, this has been pushed in while handling the pump/motor and is now stuck in, just needs freeing/pulling out.

Going outside to get some photos

My plastic bracket is removed so you can now see the plunger

I had the plunger stick in so removed the bracket and left it off as the new position had put the cable under enough tension to press the plunger in.

[ref]markplant[/ref], Yes I did find the metal tab inside the boot so put it back in place but still nothing I haven tried to click the switch manually and nothing either

[ref]PDJ[/ref], The thing is I'm getting no light no sound and no unlocking mechanism operating absolutely nothing I checked the fuses 12 & 31 and they are ok. Is there anywhere else I could check?

If theres no action on the switch ( and the LED isn't orange, indicating the parcel shelf issue) then it will be the sensor loom. Basically the Roof ECU doesn't know where the roof is so wont do anything. Trust me !

It's not the pump. motor etc as the first part of the operation would work otherwise (i,e the windows, unlatching etc)

[ref]Number5[/ref], Ok so Definitely need to replace the switch then. No other way to test before replacing the switch?

No. Not the switch. The sensor loom that runs from the ECU into the roof front

[ref]Number5[/ref], Thanks for that so now I need to go on a Hunt for the ECU, Haven't got a clue where this is :D

Take out the little grille on the side wall behind the passenger seat and its there, Its a small grey box the size of a fag packet
