Z4 35i Manual...

Hello All,

I've currently got a 3.0i 2004 Z4 manual which i love, but have decided its time to upgrade to the new version..

I have found a really nice one in the classifieds but am a little worried about the spec - specifically the advert says that it has electronically adjustable suspension... but its a manual and i didn't think the M adjustable suspension was an option on the manuals?...

also... its a manual! now i love the manual in my current 3.0 but do we feel that the 35i really deserves the DCT? has anyone got a manual version? what do they think?!

help please guys!

thanks
Danny

I'm buying a DCT version this weekend, but if I had a choice I wouldn't mind getting a manual (I only went for DCT because manual one on the market wasn't much cheaper than DCT version after taking into account various differences in spec, age, mileage, etc)

In summary, I wouldn't be put off by the fact that it's a manual.

Adaptive suspension is available on manual cars. I would rather have a DCT but if you are happy with manual now I can't see you would be disappointed with the 35i as a manual.

I have a manual and it's fantastic, much more driver involvement than a DCT. I found the DCT too like a video game, I do trackdays in mine and wouldn't have it any other way. As for the adaptive suspension, I would have specced it myself if you could choose the softer setting with the sharper throttle and less ESP intervention. But sadly, you can only have hard ride with the most extreme settings, which again is fine on track, but on our roads in the UK was just too firm and impedes rapid progress.

thanks for your responses guys - off to take a look at it on Saturday!!

is there anything specific to look out for on the E89's other than the obvious mechanical and roof related checks?

thanks

Hello All,

SO.. I have been to seen the car today - really clean and tidy, ran well all looked good inside however there are two things that are bothering me...

1. when i put the roof up, there was a noticable squeeking noise as we went along, as if the strucutre was a little to tight or in needed some WD - anyone else have this? common fault?

2. when i tested out all of the lights, i noticed that no matter what setting you put the lights on, the inner xeons never came on? - the rings worked on all lights, as did the side lights and full beams, but none of these came out of the inner ones... is this normal?

oh and one last thing, does anyone know of service that i can call or E-Mail to find out the exact original spec of the car? just want to find out what it originally came with...?!

thanks loads everyeone!

Danny

Not sure about 1, but I think 2 is ok.

I dont think the inner lights do anything. Our 1'er has xenons but the inner lights don't light.

If you take the VIN number to a BMW dealer they can tell you its original spec. They might be able to do it from the reg number.

The lights are bi-xenon, but instead of two lights, it flips between full and main beam by flipping a flap in the single light.

I think on older cars it used 2 lights.

Also, I dont know if adaptive headlights make a difference (the ones that move round corners). We've got those on our Zed, but not the 1'er, but on neither car does the inner light light up.
