So having spent the last 3 months getting acquainted with my 03' 2.5, the opportunity to upgrade has unexpectedly cropped up - as I am likely to trade mine in (within the fortnight) against the wife's new fiesta.
I'm on the look out for a 3.0 si. Open to colour - silver, black, blue, even white. If it is a darker colour, I'd prefer a cream interior (though not essential) budget is around £7.5k.

Must have:
Good Service history
Heated seats
Non run flat tyres.
cup holders!

The silver forum car advertised a few weeks ago would have been perfect!

If anyone out there is thinking of selling or trading in around this price - please let me know - happy to travel for the right car.
Cheers.

Checked that one out. Looks nice but the sticker or whatever it is on the back just threw me a bit.
In no rush, happy to wait and see what turns up. Equally, in a position to buy straight away. Best of both worlds.

At the price you are looking at being fussy about a sticker or two you will find it hard to find any suitable car.

It is easily removed as are the one in the boot etc..

Your budget for a 3.0 Si would seem tight leaving you chancing one with ropey history , high miles or needing cosmetics
From what ive seen on the market over the winter the car above belonging to forum member stands out as a decent buy , well maintained & in the target area for your wallet
gotta be worth a sniff :?

Forgot to add that within 6 - 8 weeks the door will be open & the budget will look even tighter for a decent 3.0si

Very possibly, but not impossible

Mind you, I can only relate to my own very recent experience. I picked up a facelift E85 at the weekend for a good deal less than the OP's suggested budget, so there are cars out there. It may just take a little patience for the right one to pop up.

In any case, good luck with the search!

Half the fun is in the search

If you are in no rush and wouldn't mind a few hundred pounds change, I was intending on selling my 2.5si in the spring. It is SORN'd at the moment.

Here's the draft ad!

  • Z4 2.5si Sport (218bhp)
  • Silver Grey Metallic
  • Manufactured 08/06, first registered 12/06

  • Current mileage is 76k-ish
  • MOT expires 8th October 2016
  • 7 MOTs, no failures
  • Service history
    • Scheduled:
      • 28/12/2006 Pre-delivery check 0 Westerly Yeovil BMW
      • 30/01/2009 Oil service 17128 Cotswold BMW
      • 02/08/2010 Inspection 1 35975 Cotswold BMW
      • 11/10/2012 Oil service 52963 Chariots Kettering
      • 11/10/2012 Inspection 2 52963 Chariots Kettering
      • 19/04/2014 Oil service 63369 Home - PT01
      • 13/02/2015 Inspection 1 71350 ProTech Aylesbury
      • 30/08/2015 Oil service 75740 Home - PT02
    • Time-based (brake fluid changes):
      • 30/01/2009 Brake Fluid 17128 Cotswold BMW
      • 30/12/2010 Brake Fluid 38917 Cotswold BMW
      • 11/10/2012 Brake Fluid 52963 Chariots Kettering
      • 13/02/2015 Brake Fluid 71350 ProTech Aylesbury
  • It’s worth pointing out a couple of things in relation to the above:
    • At my request, Chariots did an early Inspection 2 (including oil change) instead of the scheduled Oil Service. Hence the mileage is identical for those two services on 11/10/2012.
    • I’ve done my own oil changes recently, and have only used decent oil (Castrol Edge 5w30) and proper OEM filters
  • Standard spec:
    • Alarm/immobiliser
    • Hardtop preparation
    • Wind deflector
    • Automatic soft top
    • Aluminium trim
    • Automatic dimming rear view mirror
    • Heated seats
    • Business CD (6 speaker)
    • M Sport suspension
    • M Sport steering wheel
    • M Sport seats
    • M Sport double spoke alloys (style 135)
  • Additional factory options I have added:
    • Cruise control
    • Auxiliary audio input
    • Multi-function steering wheel buttons
    • Sound generator
    • Electrically adjustable heated seats
    • Piano black interior dashboard and centre console trim
    • Cup holders
    • ZHP short shift gear knob
    • Clear rear 3rd brake light
  • Additional non-BMW extras:
    • Stainless steel exhaust tips
    • 4” door speakers
    • Clutch delay valve (CDV) removed
    • Alloys power-coated in light anthracite
    • LED interior and numberplate lights
    • Stubby aerial
    • Gloss black grilles (painted)
    • Wheel spacers - 12mm front, 15mm rear
  • Significant repairs/maintenance:
    • 2014:
      • Roof motor replaced and re-sealed
      • New Bosch aero wipers fitted
    • 2015:
      • All brake discs and pads replaced with Brembo high carbon discs and Textar low dust pads
      • Brake callipers and carriers refurbished in Silver
      • Front nearside brake calliper replaced
      • Front suspension refreshed - Meyle HD front wishbones, bushes and droplinks fitted
      • Radiator fan wiring issue diagnosed and fixed
      • Scuff in hood fabric repaired with liquid vinyl
    • 2016:
      • Driver’s seat foam replaced due to the bolster getting a bit soft
      • DUE: handbrake mechanism needs greasing as it creaks
      • DUE: front shock absorbers to be replaced, as per MOT advisory
  • Both keys, manuals, lots of receipts.
  • Tyres are non-runflat (18” Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta), which means that I carry a compressor and a tube of tyre repair slime in the boot at all times. Fronts have ~5mm tread; rears ~2.5mm (they will need replacing soon).
  • Known issues:
    • A couple of small bodywork dings and areas of gravel rash
    • One alloy has some minor kerbing
    • Had a couple of early incidents (2012-2013) of the engine misfiring, including one where I called the RAC out. On all occasions it was fine after restarting and it has been ok for the past year. Local indie reckons this is a common issue with these engines, caused by cold, dirty oil blocking the Vanos filters, and that my more frequent oil changes has probably fixed it.
    • There are some outstanding maintenance jobs which I need to do, listed above as "DUE". I already bought all the parts for these things before I decided to upgrade to a Z4M, so they aren’t optional.
    • The one very common issue which hasn’t happened yet (as far as I am aware) is that the rear springs haven’t broken! I’m not even sure that this will happen now, given that the car doesn’t have runflat tyres anymore, but it’s worth bearing in mind.

Thanks for the advice Mr Wilks - just gutted I wasn't in this position 2 weeks ago as that silver 3.0si was lovely! As they say though, there's always something else around the corner :driving:

Let me know if you're interested in mine.

2006 3.0si manual
76k miles
Full BMW SH. Last one was the big insp 2, so 7k (edit:more like 6k now actually) miles until oil service I believe. It's always been under BMW insured warranty with no excess. The only thing I've had done was new fog lights.

Silver Grey, 18in 5 spoke alloys, heated sports seats, black leather, nav, BT phone, upgraded stereo with DSP and Aux in. Cruise. It's even got a rear spoiler :-)

Thinking about selling because my commuting car has expired and whilst I can get 40+mpg in this it's not really ideal for a 330mile round trip commute on a regular basis.

edit: It has 4 very good Hankook Ventus Evos with loads of life left.
edit2: It also has cup holders :-)

Thanks to all those who took the time to reply.
Well, rather unexpectedly I stumbled upon a local Slk350 for decent money. My z4 fling was shortlived but I must say thanks to all who contribute to this site. The information, banter and advice is first class.
