Z4 3.0i Conversion to race Car thread.

Nice to see someone starting from nothing there Skinny.

I don't know if its of any interest but the Classic Sports Car Club with who I have raced previously have a relatively new section they call "New Millennium" which is for cars post 2000, the Z4 would fit in there very nicely I think and the guys at CSCC are real nice guys and they do what they can to accommodate even if the car doesn't quite fit they will usually accept the entry.

You will find it here. http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/?q=New%20Millennium

Thank you 8) I'm Director of the CSCC and the Z4 does indeed fit perfectly into class C of the RSV Graphics New Millennium Series. I have chatted to Gary Feakin about the idea. :)

More cars are virtually finished for Z cars so we will see more of them out as the season progresses.

Kind regards, David (Smitheram)

It looks like the rear stays of the cage are picking up on the rear turrets, any photographs of that Dave?

Are you not triangulating the cage into the front turrets as well? this adds a lot of stiffness under braking?

Hi All,

Bit of an update..

So car went over to Jack @ Cosmic Colour Motorsport last weekend. I had washed the engine bay but we still had plenty to do.

We removed all the little plastic clips etc which i can assure you are a joy to remove !! then during the week jack and one of his guys prepped the car ready to paint.

I will have to do another post to get the rest of the photos up but these were the car prepped.

And now for the in progress shots

After 2 good coats of Nardo grey and a nice bake in the oven the car was ready to take back from the painters...

The car is now back and we have left it for a few days for the paint to harden fully.

Next steps will be to get it back in the air and have the subframe etc down we will be sending that off to be powder coated. Fingers crossed we should have a clutch and solid flywheel this week so that we can start work on the engine. Including a full service cambelt and lockwire the bolt in the sump that hold the oil pipe in place.

May be a little while for updates as off to Le Mans next week so the car may have to have a rest before the build continues.

Hope your enjoying the thread.

I was fortunate enough to spend an hour in an AMG C63s at Mercedes World yesterday afternoon (not bad for a work day!)
Very fast but nowhere near as exciting to drive as my Coupe. Great to sit in with the instructor (Nick) for a couple of hot laps, that's a whole different world. Interestingly he knew all about Z Cars and reckoned he'd driven one of the cars that's already prepared. He seemed very positive about the car and the series.

Hi All,

Sorry for the big gap in posting anything further has been a busy few months of doing everything other than the race car unfortunately. Well I say that I went to Le Mans which was amazing but then work has taken center stage for most of us the last few weeks/month.

Only a brief update today. So car came back from paint so next job was to strip everything else from the car and I mean everything. last time you saw it was like this.
IMG_7808.JPG

But now we have literally stripped everything off.
IMG_8487.JPGIMG_8489.JPGIMG_8490.JPGIMG_8491.JPG

We are now getting our mate to just give the underside a paint in Nardo Grey which meant at the weekend we needed to move the car out and jetwash the underneath. that was interesting.

Few bits have now gone off to be powder coated and then we will start to re assemble the lower bits so we again have a rolling chassis.

We have the polybush kit now and we just need the suspension to come in and we should be pushing on well.

if anyone is after interior bits please let me know I am trying to get rid of as much as possible.

will try to update again soon cheers

I had the pleasure of seeing this car last weekend in the flesh whilst buying some bits for my race project.

Its being properly well done and looks stunning - Its going to make a belting race car with attention to detail like that.

o :)
