Z4 3.0i Bumper Damaged

Hi all,

A friend reversed from his drive and has bumped into the front of the Z4 in the process, it's made a hole a couple inches round in the bumper itself on the passenger side and scraped an area about 6 or 7 inches round.

As I'm not familiar with the bumper styles and the work involved with swapping etc (along with cost), would it be more feasible to ask for a repair and respray on the current bumper, or just get a new facelift style one and spray it off the car and fit it myself (I'm sure I can manage this as I've built engines and am fairly good with working on cars).

What else would be involved with the facelift style, for instance? There must be other grills that I'd have to purchase as well, but what about internal fittings?

He'll just be paying out of his own pocket instead of insurance as it can't be more expensive than him losing his no claims etc.

Not upgraded a bumper myself, from what I have heard if you want to change to a face lift bumper which looks far better in my opinion then you would also need new style fog lamps. Occasionally these come up for sale on fleabay but are quite scarce and will usually require a DIY refurb as well as they suffer from reflector corrosion. New ones I believe are around £130 each via Jamie at Sopers. Not sure if you have highlight washers or not, if not and the bumper you get has holes to fit washers you would need no cover the holes with a pair of blank cover plates that can be glued in place. A second hand face lift bumper is around the £80 mark, and there are a few on fleabay to choose from, then a re spray would be around £200 unless you know a friendly paint shop! You would also need the new black plastic lower grills. The fitting is fairly straight forward, not sure if you would need any extra clips, no doubt other members will be able to advise.

Thanks guys, I may look at the aero if it's easier then! I do have headlight washer yes so I suppose the existing covers will suffice.

I assume that is the Aero in your signature Jonny? It looks ok, I do ever so slightly prefer the facelift one but both are better than my current one. I guess it will be a case of whichever is cheaper I think!

I changed my front to a facelift bumper and was the easiest 10 min job ever! I bought mine off a forum member who kept the facelift fogs in so it was a straight swap.
No need for any extra plastic parts, simply take off the old one, put facelift one back on... Job done!
Try and get a facelift bumper if you can with the fogs still on it, if not, simply run without fogs till you find a set! Cheaper than M or aero too!
