Z4 3.0 SI real mpg v dash figures

I have done my maths on my latest fill up which is a daily commute to work 15 mile round trip. A few Hills some traffic some A road.
I zero'd my mpg on dash last fill up. I have taken it pretty easy this tank. I have opened her up a few times. Mostly low revs.
My dash figure was 29.4 MPG for the last tank of fuel. The real MPG figures brim to brim tank and using http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php was.... 29.55 MPG (UK) :thumbsup:
I am well pleased with the economy of the 3.0 si. .Work colleagues laughed when I told them 30 MPG from a 3.0L petrol.
My 3.2 Audi TT hit 22 MPG on the same route.
So it seems the on board MPG read out is pretty accurate on the 3.0 si.
I can now enjoy this tank full with out worrying about MPG. I have achieved 30 MPG ish once...never to be repeated :evil:
I know these cars are not bought with economy in mind but running my 3.2 audi really started bothering me 19-22 mpg.
 
I think there incredibly frugal....

Over 40 mpg is achievable on a steady run.... So for something with 265bhp i think its brilliant.
 
I've not tested the gauge on my ///M, but my previous Zed it was very close to real world.

I bet that figure drops to 27ish once you start using the loud pedal more though.
 
They are surprisingly good on fuel I use our 3.0si mainly at weekends and our wverage is always around the 31/32 mark which is usually a mixture of driving including country lanes. On a longer motorway run recently I had it up to 40.9!
 
I get 35mpg doing motorway driving with the occasional hoon on the way home.
Roof down affects it a little. But it's still good considering the performance.
Btw, my calculated figures are the same as the dash figures!
 
One of the reasons I liked the 3.0 Z4 was the mpg potential. Having owned brand new Evo VI, S2000, Integra Type R and WRX in the past, getting 30 mpg was rare if not impossible even on the motorways.

In fact, had also been looking at the 350Z roadster, but after doing the maths on 12k mile year with its 24 mpg return, that's nearly £1000 extra on top of everything that I preferred with the Z4.

I feel content in my sensible choice of motorised chariot. :wink:
 
I'm commuting on A roads and a slight hint of dual carriageway and running at 25mpg. So that's not bad for quite a bit of statinery bumper to bumper action. Quite a culture shock coming from 40mpg from my E90 320d.
 
I was expecting a dent in the pocket when I got the 3.0 si. So far the dash says 34.4 mpg over 5k miles and getting 300 odd miles to 3/4 tank, as I fill up before the light comes on.

This was an unexpected saving as I'd accepted that a 3.0 just wouldn't be cheap on fuel. Yeah I granny it and need to get out on quiet roads more. Then the fuel bill will be as expected.
 
A nice leisurely weekend drive with SWMBO next to me (she's a copper :?) on fast A roads for around 60 miles returned 36 mpg. Can't say I get the same when I'm with my daughter, or on my own having a bit of a hoon :driving:
 
I've averaged 26.7 in mine over 12k (in 6 months). I'm hoping for about 20ish in the 135i, if I'm lucky.... It incredible that a 3.0 engine can manage to use so little fuel, i think the 6th gear ratio helps a fair amount though.
