Z4 3.0 Si exhaust tuning

I am keen to finish the Zed off with a nice performance exhaust system.

Youtube is surprisingly thin on the ground with exhaust sound clips, whilst there doesn't seem to have been much discussed on the forum, which surprises me.

Can we get some discussion going about exhaust tuning options for UK owners, feedback from members who have had systems fitted and some sound clips?

Obviously you have the off-the-shelf option versus the custom system route.

I am quite tempted to pay a visit to MIJ as they seem to be very good value.

Anyone got any experiences they would care to share?
 
Hi mate..

I have a custom made system on my 3.0si ..sounds superb IMO.

I had it done at at AMD in Essex..basically they build it to whatever spec you want..tailpipe design.. how loud..etc..

They went from 2 pipes to one from the cat back ...they said that the single pipe can then be a much larger diameter than the two therefore allowing a much better flow rate...This did show as well because when it went on the rollers power was up by 6BHP from standard and without any other mods it must have been down to the exhaust being done..Also the first one they did, although a better flow rate, was too loud for me so they ordered another rear box and that did the trick..So in summary well worth the money and the sound I wanted not a manufacturers sound to endure..

I've had the backbox taken off completely the other day, bit of a shot in the dark as like you say next to no info. I'll post a separate thread on it when I get the video the guys at the Style Dynamics did but.....its marmite to be honest. Its not actually that loud, at idle barely any different but when giving it the beans it does sound great and some serious pops and burbling going on, like a hell of a lot! It does have the annoying drone at around 3k rpm, not overly but is there so im probably going to go back to standard before too long, might grow to love it more though!

After following all the posts on modding the Z4M backboxes I think this would be a good way to go, both in terms of cost and sound quality. If you do this, please post with pics!

Drone seems to be the problem with many of the aftermarket options. Based on the results of the Z4M backbox mods and the absence of drone, I wonder if the heavier metal construction of the oe boxes might attenuate or deaden the vibrations that contribute to drone.
 
There is PLENTY on here about exhausts!! That's what lead me and MachineMonkey to make our own quad systems including bypass pipes. :thumbsup: images and videos in my thread in the gallery section :)
Ranski has put tons of info and many others about which exhaust system to go for (quad) Brad (project marmite) had a straight through installed before he started his project, again with lots of pics and a few videos, just two off my head, but plenty of others too! We must be using a different forum search :lol:
