I've owned this car for the past 4 years, by far the longest I've ever owned a car which I do believe to be a true testament to a fantastic car.

11 Months MOT.

98,000 miles.

Red M Sport seats, heated, memory electric adjustable.

M Sport Suspension.

M sport multifunctional steering wheel.

Professional 10 Speaker sound package.

6 CD auto changer

Bluetooth package

Automatic air conditioning.

Rain sensors

Xenon headlights with headlight washer control.

Park Distance control (PDC)

Compartment package.

Wind deflector.

Auto glare rear view mirror.

Hard top preparation.

Chrome line interior.

Cruise control.

Very good BMW service history.

Replacement parts in ownership:
New (upgraded) roof motor

4 good branded tyres, matching across the axel, 7mm all round.


I am selling for such a low price due to a problem with the power steering, it is an intermittent fault which I do not have the time, or effort to get repaired. I'm currently moving house and this has taken a low priority as it is my second car.

The PAS is generally inactive when the car is started, after a drive (10-20 mins) the PAS wakes up and behaves as normal for the rest of the day.

Just picked one up last night mate!

Typical isn't it, though I'm not sure I could be bothered buying into problems hence why I sold my last coupe!

Good luck with the sale mate sure it'll be a easy fix for someone!
 
What a fantastic spec'd, sub 100k car for the money for someone who's willing to fettle with the steering before next spring. Looks in great condition too, but some interior pics would help.

If only it wasnt so far away, I'd have been tempted to take a punt for a winter driver whilst the Alpina gets tucked up.

Also I'm now 2 Zeds behind Mr Wilks at 6-4 :headbang:
 
The steering column fix is probably a cheap diy fix.

A car with these specs is easily worth 8,5k on the Mainland (if the steering wheel would have been on the other side)
Unbelievable how low prices are getting in th UK

If it is sticky steering (on hot days it feels like the steering wheel is held in the middle position by a magnet), there is an eccentric ring between the electric motor from the eps and the steering column. Rotating that ring sets the play between the worm gear (connected to the electric motor) and the spurgear on the steering column. It is believed that the cause of sticky steering is too little play between those gears, so that the initial friction force (which is too large with those gears with too little play) has to be overcome first before the torque sensor sees torque on the steering column and sends a signal to the electric motor to assist.
So rotating that eccentric ring (by loosening 2 bolts) to enlargen the play between those two gears usually solves this problem.
somewhere here is a topic with a link to the german Z forum where there is a 100+ page topic on this matter and where they figured it out some time ago.

The grease nipple fix can reduce the friction between the gears but doesnt address the real problem of the tolerance between the gears.

its not just sticky steering from what I can see of what the OP has written...
 
maybe, maybe not.
The info is pretty vague. Obviously you only buy a car with problems after a proper diagnoses, but for that you have to drive it in person and dig around a bit with some diagnostic software like inpa or ista-d.
If it's really intermittent, that might be a problem (if the problem doesnt occur at the test drive, it makes diagnoses a lot harder :wink: )

As said those aren't the classic sticky steering symptoms so many people have reported. I recall a couple of members had intermittent shut downs like the OP's and it turned out to be a connector/wiring fault at the column end so was voltage related. The module is designed to shut down and stop electric assistance if voltages at the unit stray above or below operating thresholds (10-16 v). An over-voltage will trigger a warning light, but not necessarily an under voltage. In fact Battery/charging would be an idea to eliminate first but whatever it is it doesn't sound like a biggie and wouldn't put me off at that money 8)

Can everyone please stop spamming the thread, speculating what the fault with the PAS could be.
It may well be an easy fix as I know simple things like faulty sensors can throw a code up and disable the PAS, on the other end of the spectrum it could be a steering column, it really is unknown and I feel I've priced it accordingly to address this.

It really is a ludicrous amount of car for peanuts, I know it's going to make someone very happy.

sorry mate, the intention was not to spam, i would potentially be interested in the car that's why i was asking. I'm just a little worried about the PAS issue.

After an incredible amount of interest, I've had zero viewers!

The car is still being sold exclusively to the forum (I've even taken the signs off the car), if I hear nothing by the weekend it'll be going on autotrader etc.
