I have noticed recently a lot of the cars advertised on autotrader with dealers are dropping in price by around £500-1000. I managed to by my Z4 coupe privately at around the value we buy any car put on it. Having said that, it was overdue an inspection 2 service, the discs are 80% worn and the wheels were in need of a refurb. I have now changed the tyres for non runflats, exchanged the wheels at first aid wheels and had the service done. The discs will be replaced next year at some point. My car is a 2008 sport auto with 32,000 miles on it, black with red leather.

You may have been helped by the fact that yours is an auto - I think these typically stay on the market longer. When I bought mine there weren't many manual sports with less than 50k miles to choose from - there are quite a few more now!!

Its a good buy for someone - presumably being at a dealer they will have fixed the issue with the ABS pump, ive spent thousands on it maintaining it!

Its a classic case of a dealer hoping to make a easy £2k/£2500 on a quick flip but reality is he will most likely make £500/£750 by the time its sold
Its a nice colour combo on 95k (no nav ) & whilst we like Z4s on here £8k / £9k for 8 yr old car heading for 100k leaves a low number of buyers :wink:
As we know from our own members cars 2/3/4 months to sell isn't unusual

Suprised you'd say 8k is dear for a very late coupe with <100k miles on though- 8k for an 08 with sub 100k is unheard of in this thread is it not?
I don't think it is dear J , my point was the cars are not "quick flippers " as yours & the Montego blue one shows
They can take many months to sell which unnerves some dealers prompting them to drop & drop the ask until the car sells for a figure they could probably have made far easier on a different car :?

Miles i don't think ever kills a car's sale prospects providing its history , condition + price is all good but do you think the the coupe is more appealing in auto form ?
I wouldn't disagree with that & would guess there are fewer of them

I think there are cars that are mileage sensitive (like the coupe), especially when nearly pushing the magic 100k mark.
The auto/manual thing.
A coupe is the coolest little run-around. It's a car that my wife can jump in without a problem and drive. You can leave it parked outside without the guilt associated with not garaging a roadster.
If you want a fun weekend toy, then yes a manual would probably be more desirable, (and probably in roadster form).
If you want a manual coupe, than for me, it would have to be the Z4MC (they don't cost much more than the 3.0).
Which makes the 3.0si coupe more desirable as an auto than a manual imo. And I really doubt I'm the only one with this opinion.

I dont understand the obsession with mileage.
Maybe having always driving old jap cars ive always discarded mileage as a consideration for purchase. I remember buying my mk1 mx5 and I didnt even know the mileage, Im sure i glanced at it in the advert but then had to actually check when i viewed the car when i got there as I had forgotten. Turns out it was 133,000 which was a mix of KM and Miles due to being an import. Still didnt care. Just made sure the sills werent rusty. Checked everything as you would normally on a car etc.
Its seems certain marquees and forums have varying degrees of boners over mileage, Ive seen loads of comments on peoples for sale threads whinging about mileage, "i would only pay that if it was -xxxx miles less" etc. It seems pretty prevalent around here, Do people genuinely believe cars mysteriously fall apart when they hit 100,000 miles? that buying a car with 50,000 miles means they want have any issues?
If anything the higher mileage cars will already have had replaced the stuff that wears with mileage, Brake lines, Suspension bushes etc. Buying a low mileage car without these done just means you will probably have to pay for it at some point on top of increased price for buying the "low miles" car, Then all you have left as a bonus for a low mileage car is you also get to put "low miles" in your for sale advert.
Sure lower mileage car is preferable but in terms of choosing a car to buy i wouldnt even put in top 3 of my considerations.
I also dont see how the coupe is a mileage sensitive. Its a pretty bombproof engine, No reports of chassis rust etc. No known common serious issues (i.e K series headgaskets, clio 197 gearboxes etc). Things wear and tear as per normal but I would say the coupe was the opposite of mileage sensitive.
