Z4 3.0 Coupe market watch

Wheels look shabby & miles at 109k make the £8500 seem expensive for a 56 plate car but its a WoW on the spec , love the Bi colour seats

So I was going to start a topic and then found this one...

I've just joined the club with a 56 plate 3.0si coupe in black with red leather and sat nav. It's been serviced on mileage rather than age but I overlooked that fact as it only has 45k on the clock. How much I hear you ask? After it was on the market for a number of weeks plus haggling just £9,500. It needs new rear tyres and a service but upon thorough checking there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

I'm struggling to get my head around why other similar cars are asking £2-4k more, with one BMW dealer advertising a 3.0si at c.£18k. I can't see that these other cars are worth that much more, they sit on the market for ages and there is a decent choice for less. Some sellers are being optimimistic in my opinion as although not common these cars aren't that hard to come by, with 30-40 (that's just the manuals) consistently on Autotrader alone at any one time. Given that many don't sell for quite some time I'd suggest supply outstrips demand, despite the low numbers.

From my limited experience it's a great car and the N52 feels a fair bit more lively than in our e91 but I still can't comprehend the spread in pricing. Just look at the classifieds on here for an example of not selling and large price drops. I offered £10,500 on a good example much closer to me, initially advertised at £11,500 but I was turned down. The seller has since dropped through £11k and is now still waiting for a sale at you guessed it £10,500! 07 with 70k miles.

I'd love my car to be worth more right now but I think people need to get real to a certain extent.

You can't fault people for trying to maximise their cash when the time comes to sell but you are correct, some people are very optimistic in pricing.. Sometimes making a rod for their own backs by pricing high and it sits on the market forever, making the car seem unwanted..

There has been a bubble in certain model Z4 prices this year and the coupe got in on the act ... Prices went up but with people asking close to M money then it's a no brainer to just buy th M version and maintain residual value even more and have even more fun and exclusivity

I don't blame them either but I've never seen such a wide disparity when car hunting. I can't understand why you'd buy one at the top end, unless it truly was mint, as from what I saw they are in the same sort of condition as the lower priced cars, which is good but used.

Would have loved an M as I've pined after an e46 M3 for as long as I can remember. The S54 is probably my favourite 'affordable' engine. Now that they've finally come down into budget I chose the Z4 as it's more special more of the time with that cosy cabin and good looks, plus I had a 330 before. Whilst I could run an M I couldn't do so comfortably enough to justify it as a daily driver. One day though...

Much sense written Steve & can't disagree with any of it .
I think you've proved that folks sometimes think if they pay more they get more when in actual fact if you search more & travel more that's when you can maximise your spend .
My opinion now is you will see them from £7500/£12500 dependent on the obvious & the target for any buyer should be the best spec, miles & cond for somewhere in between .
3 yrs ago i paid £9150 for my 56 plate Zcoupe on 89k (full spec + history) i sold it a year later for close to £9k & i would imagine now the car will be nudging towards 100k but still worth between £8k/£8750 so they are holding value for those who buy wise .
Good luck & enjoy it , they are a rare car on the road & always look well on any car park

A lot of wise words written Mr Wilks & Steve84N.

2006 SE Coupe: £8250. Not a great advert in itself, basic-ish spec (like mine), reasonable miles, but at that price still looks a good deal for someone wanting to get into a coupe at not much money.

Sidenote: the guy thinks it's a future classic too  ;)

That is a really nice looking Coupe at reasonable money as £8k would likely drive it away .
Upsize the wheels & that should make a good investment , champagne trim & piano dash are a class act

I've had a lengthy read of the majority of the How To's amongst other things on here and come to the conclusion that this is a great forum/resource.

Thinking back to my Fiesta days on a forum you still got great info but also a lot of tripe!

Cat D so pricey imo although selling off some of the M badges should recoup a little
Not sure what the slanted reg plate holder is about :?
Wheels do suit though should lure some attention for the seller

84k Zcoupe at £6k ! :o
Ok Cat D but check the spec , if its a dog you could have your cash back breaking for spares

Just using the free Autotrader Car Valuation, my Z4C's private value has appreciated £300 from when I did the same valuation when I bought it in early July :)

Dunno...

It was on Facebook ..

Its the drop & the shoes that rings bells ?
Was up for sale maybe 12/18 months ago for around £9500 initialy but ended up nearer £8500 i think :?
Might be wrong on the claim part ? There was some issue though which i suspect held back a quick sale as the car looks great imo
