Z4 2L Performance

Hi , I've had my z4 for over 6 months now and I love it. At the time of purchase I didn't have enough money to go for a 2.5l/3l

I've seen on other posts that additional Bhp can be achieved but others have posted on 3l models which I found confusing. I was wondering if anyone could answer my questions with regards to a 2l sport

1) what additional Bhp should I hope to achieve with a remap?
2) can a supercharger be fitted? What cost?
3) does vpower make any difference ?
4) does anyone know how else to increase power?

I really don't want to sell as the example I bought is pristiene with walnut dash.

Thanks
John

Cue Jonny.

Your best bet really is to sell up and buy a 3.0i/3.0si or even a 2.5si

Will be cheaper in the long run.

Personally I would be happy with what I had in terms of the performance from the 4 cylinder engine. Supercharger fit can be done but at a cost - far better to put the money towards a change to a 6 cylinder version.

1) what additional Bhp should I hope to achieve with a remap? Next to none, don't waste your £200.
2) can a supercharger be fitted? What cost? Yes probably £3-£5k depending on what you go for.
3) does vpower make any difference ? Not to power, but your wallet will be lighter.
4) does anyone know how else to increase power? How deep are you pockets?

The long and short of it is, you are most likely better off selling what you have and upgrading. It will cost you less, you won't have sunk a load of cash into a car which you will never get back and you will have a more reliable car for it.

For £2k you could probably go NOS, but that won't give you power all the time, just in bursts as and when needed.

You might get a charger on there for around £2k, though i would expect a fair amount of DIY to save on costs and even then your likely to find some hidden costs you weren't expecting.

Nitrous Oxide System.

You basically inject nitrous oxide into the airflow and as it is more flammable it gives a bigger bang when it hits the engine. At least that's my limited understanding of it.

£ per BHP its one of the cheaper ways of getting more power.

Some info here may be of interest.

Mate wouldn't even bother wasting your money. Sell yours and buy a 3.0 if you can afford it get the 3.0si. I have a 3.0 and wish I paid a little more and got an si.!!!

Without a doubt the easiest way to get more power, plus you can search around for all the little extras you would of liked in your present car.

I also have 2.0i sport which I love great performance, I got on plenty hoons with people around the north east, went out 2weeks ago 2.5ltr in front and 3.0ltr behind and I managed fine... In my opinion pretty good 2.5 didn't get to much distance on me till straights and off the bends and we were driving hard also. Add more fun to it trying to keep up with the big boys.

When I am due an upgrade which won't be for a least 2-3years only had car since jan I will look at something bigger but for now it is more than good enough

Mate I've had my 2.0 just coming up to a year and found it great fun as per last comment I've been out with 3.0 ms and had more fun trying to keep up,yes they leave us on the straights but through the twisties there's nothing in it really,a lot of it boils down to how big you balls are with late breaking.this year we've done 2 road trips over 1000 miles each and can't fault it with upto 44 mpg. And the 2.0 won't eat tyres I would have thought as quick as the bigger boys. :driving:

We are talking driving on public roads here on a track of course we wouldn't stand a chance.obviously the 3.0 and M s are a better car but how often can full power be used.

I'll take you out for a spin some time and show you lol

2.0 is great for everyday budget sports car. Throw it into a corner on full power and have no worries about it, not alot to worry aboit in winter either. Can't do things like that with the bigger engined cars. But unfortunately that's where the joys of 2 vs 3 end. Personally I've loved owning my 2, its been a great introduction to sports cars. 3 years later and now I just want more so its time for it to go

+1
2.0 is fast enough for a roadster and hooning around in. If your after a motorway racer it's the wrong car.

For your budget, as i said before, NOS is biggest bang per £.

Tuning NA's isn't at all cheap. The next best mods are to go FI.

You could go down the route of porting, polishing, cams, exhaust, intake, diff ratios etc etc but its all VERY expensive for very little gain. Cams alone will set you back probably £1200 fitted!

Actually thinking about it diff might not be a bad idea. Get a higher ratio in there and it will accelerate quicker but lose top end. Could probably be done for under a grand too. Would rev higher though in all gears so fuel consumption would go down.

If you want to go faster from A to B then driving training.
If you want to go faster in a straight line then forced induction. Losing a few kg also goes a long way.
The 2.0 is a great engine but isn't that fast really if your worried about losing out at traffic lights.

You could always fit a V10 engine... seems a pretty straightforward bit of spannering, how hard can it be ... :D
