Z4 23I Closed air induction kit or just panel filter

Hi fellow bimmer owners im just wondering whats the best way to get a few extra horses without the stupid noise the open air induction makes im no bothered about a little sound hence maybe getting the closed air bmc cda or just get a k & n panel filter or am i just throwing my money down the drain what are your thoughts!

Money down drain i'm afraid as far as intakes are concerned.. If buying for sound only then fair enough but don't go expecting any power gains.

Unfortunately there's no cheap way to get more power from any naturally aspirated BMW...
 
It's been well debated on the forum. You will only get noise from an induction kit I'm afraid

Thanks people looks like il be putting my money elsewhere i didnt really want it for sound as the 6 cylinder sound track is sweet enough for me maybe an exhaust upgrade something like a miltek maybe ? :thumbsup:

Still won't give you anything except more noise! If you want more performance, I'd suggest one / all of the following:

bigger engine,
supercharger,
better brakes,
suspension upgrades,
better tyres,
less weight,
driver training

Remaps*, exhaust mods, and "upgrading" the intake are very unlikely to give you what you are looking for...

*unless you have forced induction

My seat of the pants meter says the K&N makes a small, but noticeable difference under hard acceleration. And not just in the noise but in the acceleration of the vehicle. I've been using K&N filters for 30 years in bikes and car engines without any issues with premature engine damage. You must use the filter oil as directed to help ensure performance of the filter! Any internal combustion engine will gain value from opening up the intake air flow or output flow through the exhaust, but you can't increase one very much without compensating at the other end. The trick is not too much, unless you have the EFI remapped to adjust the fuel mixture throughout the RPM and load levels on the engine. Changes as small as using a K&N versus stock filter are well within the ability of an EFI control system to compensate.
