z4 2005 3.0 overheat problem

Im new on this forum
Hi guys
So i was on the highway and suddenly heard a sound and battery sign appeared and car started to overheat
Within 1 min i parked my car in a safe place and switched off the engine and saw smoke coming out from engine
Can any one plz tell me that whats wrong with my car and what could he the repair cost? I bought thia car like 2 weeks ago the car ia 2005 and has 11500. Kms on it
Should i start my car or get it towed? Thanks
 
Sounds like the drive belt connecting the alternator and the water pump has broken??

That's the only link I can think of between the battery light and your car overheating.

If this is the case, you can't drive it very far, suggest you get it towed and get it looked at. If this is the problem it is a very Straightforward fix. :thumbsup: You may just need a new belt, unless the alternator was the source of the smoke in which case you need one of those as well.

Ahan drive belt ok but what if drive belt is not the issue and wats the price of new alternator
Anyways thanks a lot for helping me
 
+1 Stratts I get the impression some of these guys have never looked under their bonnets. :?
 
hey dude the thing is ive been driving mustang so ihave no friggin idea about bmw and in ksa maintenance over here is much more expensive than other countries .
so that why i asked .
 
Hopefully the belt resolves the issue OP

I changed the belts on mine last year as they were looking old and perished a cheap and easy job which is well worth doing. Whilst you are there check the water pump and Aircon belt as well.
