Z4 2004 Airbag Module Wanted!!

Hi all, I’m on the hunt for this part as well (65776974366) if anyone knows where I can get one, based in Norfolk.

Hello, I'm in Norfolk (Attleborough)
I've been buying a few as I see them crop up, as they are starting to fail regularly now.
I will check to see what I have here.
I can fit and code it for you.

What's the company on eBay called crash data who seem to be able to offer a repair service of sorts for modules that have activated the airbags. Any good?

I have spoken to them. They can erase crash data from the centre modules. They were a little hazy about whether they could do the satellite ones, but I would assume it must be similar.
The issue the pre-facelift cars are having is that these modules are failing due to other reasons:
Left and right satellites seem to succumb to damp.
Centre one (SIM85), occasionally due to damp but also spikes from jump starts. I have seen a few where the step-up converter inside has failed.
Sometimes they just stop talking to each other for no apparent reason. It is difficult to diagnose when they no longer interact with the scanning tools.
I currently have one of each sat with the software boffins at Lotus (my wife used to work there). I suspect replacing a step up converter will be well within their reach, but no idea how they start to fix the satellite modules that refuse to talk to anyone. However, we have to try at least.

Well done enuff. A facinating but frustrating problem. Have you taken one of the satellite modules apart. Be interesting to see what is inside, if you could post a pic.
Presumably BMW didnt manufacture them but purchased from a supplier. Is there any markings on the units, might be able to track them down etc.

Just a pcb which means as much to me as Swahili.
All made in Sweden.

I presume you can’t trick the right side one to pretend to be a left side one?
They do some different things. The plugs are identical but the wires into them are all different. The modules communicate with each other using the fibre-optic connections.
Also, only found out recently that the three modules send each other check messages at defined intervals. If one of them doesn't hear from another one in the correct time scale then it registers a 'time-out' fault and puts the airbag light on.
So you scan it and find that, for example, the right module has registered a fault to say that it hasn't heard from the left module. So the fault code is for the right module but in fact it is the left module that has the issue.

I should point out that my entire engineering career has been engines and airframes. I am doing my best to understand all this ethereal software malarkey, but this old dog is struggling with the new tricks.

If I can pick up a pre-facelift as a breaker I may spend a bit of time trying rights in lefts etc. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm also in need of part number 65776974366, any help would be greatly appreciated. I've not had much luck finding this exact part, and I know that other parts are interchangeable but Ill be honest I've found it extremely confusing.

Third post down on the first page shows the compatible numbers you can look for.

Turned out my part was an interchangeable unit so had been changed previously, I don’t know which are but mine has now been changed and seems to be ok, you are in the right place to get it sorted!
