Have given up trying to sort my original radio that has disabled message and will not work so have given up trying to fix so looking for a replacement.( 2003 does not need code )

Do you have any other symptoms at all?
I only ask as the recent spate of k-bus (airbag module) failures have made the radio display 'disabled' as well.
 
I changed the battery as thought the old one was tired( bought car a fortnight ago so going through faults) then it came up with the disabled message. It turned out it was not the battery but a drain from the cd changer. There are no other faults showing, did the other radio problems get recifiyed?
 
Random one, but are all stereos interchangeable? I’ve often see reference to code? Is this a post facelift thing? Or do all e85 and e86 fall outside that bracket? Kind of like battery registering, etc.
 
I will soon find out if I change the radio. As far as I know the E85 radios don’t need a code, mine is just being problematic
 
Not sure about the code, but if needed, there are code calculators available online... Saw some references on YouTube.

My radio is fine except some missing segments on both radio and temperature displays.
Any idea if it's DIY reparable?
