Went to start my car, battery completly flat not even a dashboard light, charged the battery for 24hrs started the car no problem. Let the car run for 20 mins then switch off then after about 30 seconds the alarm went off, then stopped then went off again and again and again, pulled the earth lead off the battery in the end, remote control had no effect at all, any ideas?

Firstly, how long was it laid up before going flat? If a couple of weeks then get a battery maintainer and change the battery.
If it happened quickly then you'll need to investigate the drain before anything else.

Once a battery has completely discharged it will never hold the same charge again so will need changing.

If the car is not disarmed the alarm will sound when the battery is disconnected. Unplugging the bonnet sensor is one item worth trying before replacing, they are approx. £10 new.

When I had an issue before it was only the indicators which were flashing not the alarm sounding, I cleaned and greased the bonnet switch and this solved the problem.
The car had been left for about 5 days when the battery went flat.
Removing the battery earth lead stopped the alarm from sounding.
I left the battery on charge last night and will investigate further this morning.
Will report back later, cheers

Charged the battery for 48 hrs and this seemed to sort the problem.
However previous owner advised to lock the car with key in door not remote control and this activated the dead locks but deactivates the alarm.
So, conclusion, Z4s don't like flat batteries, lock car with key, open with remote, job sorted.

I'd still recommend replacing the battery, once flat it will never hold the same charge again. You can pick decent ones ip for around £60.
