z4 2.5i VS Honda S200

Well I don't think your gonna find anyone on here that likes the Honda, I'd be surprised if there were, two different beasts, as I haven't driven a S2000 I can only say that the Honda is a boy racers roadster as the Zed is a grown ups car. This might interest ya.

I considered the Honda as its a bit cheaper for a given mileage and spec. Drove a couple while hunting about. The reasons I didn't go for one, the spec list is narrow so finding that special spec, doesn't feel that special. Also with the high revving Vtech needs to be worked a little harder than the BMW straight 6. The torque band peaks much higher in the rev range. Handling wise, they're hard to tell apart. Build and finish, both high quality, but I preferred the high spec Z4s. Also when treating myself to a sports car, the 6cyl just made more sense.

That's my humble opinion.

I went from an S2000 to a 2.5 Z4. Not a boy racer's car but certainly a car that demands commitment from the driver. No TC on a 240 brake car in the wet ( and dry sometimes) can have it's interesting moments :)

The S2000 is a good looking very reliable roadster with superb brakes and handling. The gearbox is excellent and the engine is incredible! Keeping your foot down all the way to 9000 rpm is manic and the noise is just brilliant!
On the move it's acceleration is a match for almost any comparable roadster. I had the Z4 2.5 si sport and the engine in that was very smooth, lovely car and had a far better interior, stereo, toys etc than the S2000.

In the end the Z4 wasn't as exciting to drive for me as the S2000 so I looked for something that gave me the best of both, loads of toys, good looks and manic engine - I went for an 'M'. :)

I tool an S2000 for a test drive before the Z4... I must say it was the toys that did it for me:

- S2000
You have to clip the roof in on the S2000 (small thing, but anyway)
The S2000 stereo is crap
No heated seats

+ S2000
The engine is epic when you push the revs
Gearbox is very nice
Brilliant brakes
Servicing is cheaper

All in all it was a close call, but I happened to find a spec'd up Z4 at the time so I bought that, if not I'd have quite happily gone for the S2000

Not a very scientific reason but the chap out in front of me on the first lap of the Ring in June in his S2000 was in the armco before we were half way round and I wasn't so the Z4 must be better

I had an S2K before my 3.0si.

I'd say performance wise the S2K is probably just as fast as my Z... but the Z feels a lot faster due to the extra torque.

I loved my S2K... never had any issues with it..... the interior is a little raw and basic, but the seats pretty supportive... and the no TC.. is interesting!

However the Z is def more refined.. when you want to move quickly off the lights in the honda you have to take it over 6K rpm to get anything out of if (which makes you look a bit like a prat... but the sound is awesome) while the Z you can pull off and keep it under 4k rpm.

And as said has a much better gearbox then the Z.... none of the clunkyness and cdv nonesense!

I considered the S2000 for a while but its just too dated a design now. Z4 is much more fresh and a little more exclusive... Go for the Zed

I think I can speak for everyone and say that we're glad you went for a Zed!

The S2000 would destroy a 2.5i in terms of speed and probably pips it for handling aswell. Styling is subjective. Everything else the Z4 wins.

S2000 does have an LSD though iirc. One big plus  And digi dash looks cool, but agree they are all the same, and no real decent spec ones. One thing i like about BMW's is all the options and retro fitting etc
