Z4 2.5i in desperate need of love - new wheels p. 2

Got mine from this eagle tyres eBay item 390395178206

Great company the only bad point if your bothered is they don't have the writing/stamping on the front

MrGriff (who now has my car) has them on his car and can send you photos of the fitted

Yikes, that sounds really bad. There was something fishy about those.

The ones from Eagle Tyres are a bit too expensive for what I'm looking at right now, the 400 GBP range is perfect and I don't mind going for used!

Definitely 108s over 107s IMO. Only thing is they're rather common, but since there's few Zeds in IS, maybe not an issue. I used to be keen on CSL reps, but I've seen them on so many performance cars lately, I sort of feel like a wannabe. (the 108s in my sig image were badly kerbed by the previous owner. My summer tyres are on CSL reps) On a practical note, despite all the little bolt hole dirt traps, 108s are easier to keep clean than CSLs.

OT re: Akureyri,
Steiner, thanks for the mini travel narrative. Nicely done. I'm excited for you. I spent nearly a month in the North, so I know 1st hand what you're in for. Despite that, I somehow missed the aviation museum. :( Oh well, maybe next time.

I've always had a crush on the CSL wheels since I had my E46 coupe; they really bring out the look that I love in that generation of BMWs. It's a blessing and a curse that CSL wheels are rare in Iceland; I only recall seeing one BMW with a set of replicas (an 1.8l Z3 which is a great looker) - and there aren't many noteworthy BMWs in Iceland that I haven't seen so far (the BMW community is relatively small here), so they're rather exclusive but impossible to come across second hand over here.

I'm more of a 108 man over the 107s. I'll keep an open eye for both of those sets when it comes to buying. I'm not too worried about getting slightly damaged wheels (as long as they're not severely bent or broken). I refurbished a set of VW wheels once with my father and they came out great, and I had a set of E39 M5 wheels by a local car painter who is an absolute master at these things. He did the refurbish relatively cheaply (for 50.000 kr - 250 quid or so) and restored them to their original shadow chrome state (after being powder coated in a horrendous dark grey color with glimmer by a previous owner).

Yummy, a fresh OEM look.

However, regarding the Cheap=Cr#p comment, I almost agree with you. Price and quality go hand in hand most of the time, but it also depends on where you go for your items. As an example, I was very happy with the Land Rover amplifier that I got yesterday for a fraction of what the same amplifier would cost with a BMW badge!

And OT re: Akureyri,

You're welcome, I hope you'll catch the aviation museum the next time around, and the Yule-house as well. I've been to Akureyri (and around Iceland) very often, but it's always a thrill to go there - especially in a good car. The last time I went there was in my E46 320ci. I drove out of Reykjavik very early, around 5 am. The sun was already up and the streets were empty. I had the road to myself for the next 400 kilometers and boy was it a thrill. I can't wait to repeat a trip like that in the Z4! The only thing I'll miss is cruise control. It seems like an easy retrofit, but I'll have to get that done later!

I just read about sound generators in 3.0 Z4s. The concept sounds interesting; is this something that can be retrofitted into the Z4 2.5 that I have?

I just got these from Germany! A set of rear-springs for the Zed. According to the BMW shop I go to, TRW manufactures OEM quality (I hope the springs are > OEM quality) parts and I was quite happy with the price. The dealership wanted 200 quid for each spring, but I procured this set for 175 quid from Rexbo GMBH. Fast shipping (rare to find a german vendor willing to ship to Iceland) and I can't complain about the price.

I'll get these installed come Monday along with some repairs to a leaking radiator. Hopefully, the parts that I'm waiting on from the US will arrive before the next Friday so I can have them installed before the roadtrip. If USPS doesn't deliver, I'll have to do it in a Ford Focus - something I'm not looking forward to.

Well, I've got new wheels! I'll be using them as winter wheels, but will be using them for the rest of the summer. It's a massive transformation!

They're style 130s and were originally fitted on an E53 X5. Here's a shitty mobile pic that'll have to do for now; I'll be taking better shots soon:

So, any comments?

Actually, they look great - it's always a risk choosing an unusual style from what I have seen, but they work really well

Can't believe they came off an X5 though - it must've looked horrendous ! Though I guess their would've been a lot more rubber on them.

A lot of rubber!

I was very interested in seeing that the X5 has the same wheel offset as the Z4 and it opened a lot of options for me. My father has a set of 19" Style 63 that I was very interested in buying. Sadly, he declined my offer, but I'll be sure to snatch them if he ever decides to sell the car.
