Hello peeps, my engine has gone kapoot does anyone know if the 2.5 or 3.0 will fit straight in to the existing gearbox and fix up to the existing plumbing electrics etc or do I have to stick with the same engine??

Any info will be greatly appreciated then I can source an engine

Surely much cheaper to buy another Zed than do an engine swap?

If it was working maybe, sell then buy again. But in this case if he's blown his engine then you've got the hassle of getting rid of a 'dead' car?

Break the car for parts?

I did it with my Z3 when it was written off and nearly made back what I originally paid for the car! 8)

Now OP has some good options! If I were in that position I'd love to break... but then I've got no drive! Looking forward to the day I do!

I want it back on the road,so I have to get another engine obviously I think I will stick to the 2.2 engine...is there another model BMW that uses the same engine I've been reading up but am getting confused as peoples opions differ ,must be other models that use this engine ?? Whats wrong with the original engine?

Mike

It's an interesting question as the M54 mechanicals are unusually robust, I've been on here for 8 years and only recall a couple of people who've scrapped a M54 unit, both due to cooling problems being neglected and then chronically overheated. Maybe a repair is possible?
