Hello all I'm new to the site, and love my z4 it has the 2.2 straight 6 beautiful engine... Thirsty but beautiful... Does any know or can give me help the heaggasket has gone but making good another nasty noise so looking to change its engine

Does the 2.5 or 3.0 fit straight into these and marry up to the existing plumbing and electrics or is it impossible??

Thanks for any Information

Phil

It will physically fit straight in. I would think pipe work will all line up and near enougth.
The 6cylender engines all share the same architecture so the physical placing of pipes and sensors should be about the same.
The ECU will most likely need changing. You will have to do a bit of research on the internet.

You would also need all the inlet pipework as well as the exhaust system on a 3.0 as iirc these are also different to allow for more airflow etc. As for getting it to run the simplest option might be a remap of your existing 2.2 ecu rather than swapping out ecus etc and then having to have them coded to your car.
Another thing worth mentioning is the 3.0 runs a six speed box but the 2.2 and 2.5 run 5 speeds. It shouldnt cause any installation issues unless say a 3.0 clutch is physically bigger and won't fit in the bell housing etc.
What exactly is wrong with your existing engine? This is a big undertaking and it makes more sense to fix what you have, but i can understand the lure of a bit more power. If your finding the 2.2 isn't to your taste it probably cheaper to fix it and sell then buy a 3.0. It's worth remembering the 3.0 comes with extra kit as standard such as bigger brakes, electric leather seats, m sport suspension and bigger wheels etc

You will need to spend some time checking part numbers on realoem http://www.realoem.com/

Surprisingly Exhaust and cats are the same on 2.2, 2.5 and 3.0, the clutch is shared on 2.2 and 2.5 but different on 3.0, diffs are all different and so on, plus the obvious like ecu's. Personally dropping another 2.2 and enjoying the sweetest six made or trading up will be much better options.

We did from 2.5 to 3.0 conversion , left 5 speed gearbox ,just fitted new clutch , also used virginized 3.0 ecu which is plug and play .Took us day and a half .
