Z4 2.0 SE selling advice please

I am finally letting go of my beloved Z4 2.0 SE 2005in sapphire black. It has 52500 on the clock FSH (last service was an inspection 2 done at BMW dealership 2 years ago). It has aftermarket 18 inch Fondmetal alloys (originally had 16 inch BMW alloys) with wider 255 tyres in the rear (225 in front) and Spax sport springs giving a 30mm drop. The car has a few imperfections due to its age but is overall in very good condition.

I am trading it in for a new Z4 but the BMW dealership will only give me £4300 as they are arguing that the car has non-standard wheels and a 30mm drop which would make the car unwarrantable under their terms..... :headbang:

Should I go for a private sale? Any recommendations? Anyone had experience of private companies that buy Z4s? Pistonheads??

Any advice would be really appreciated

Cheers :)

If the dealer would give you more for a standard car, you might find the mods would be swapped with someone wearing 104s on standard springs. If I was on standard I'd swap.

Always try a private sale first - advertise it on here!

+1

And if that doesn't work, switch the springs back (still got the old ones ?) and try and swap the alloys for some OEM ones with someone on here as said above.

eBay are always a good place to start - easy to put lots of pictures, countrywide coverage & if you write a detailed advert covering all the questions you'd ask to check out whether it was a dodgy motor, you will always find someone interested, though never willing to pay your full asking price.

Thanks for the advice/tips. I'm really not sure what sort of price I should be asking for. Autotrader have the 2.0 engines of the same age from £5200 (high miles!) to £6500 hence the reason for my disappointment at the offer from the dealership- incidentally this was the offer for a trade-in :tumbleweed:

I guess private is the way to go! I don't have the original wheels, which, trust me, were really not nice at all, and yes I do have the original springs but will have pay to get these replaced. Do you think a website such as pistonheads would be a good option given the fact the car is 'modded' with custom alloys, springs, an ECU remap, clear lamps all round, carbon black grilles, HIDs etc....?

Thanks again :)

Just as point of reference, my zed is a bog standard z4 2005 sapphire black with red leather. The only 'special' think about it is that it has turbine 17" alloys, and has a full BMW history. It had 88k on the clock and was in really good shape, apart from rear brakes needed doing and usual body work bits & pieces on a car this age. I bought it from a guy who advertised on autotrader, and paid £5350 in April with an MOT next Jan, ditto oil service (or thereabouts).

I have yet to meet a dealer that puts a 2005 Z4 on their own forecourt. That goes straight to trade so I take it they are talking rubbish re warranty.

Comments appreciated

I have to agree with you on this one. No honesty in this game! :fuelfire:

I stand corrected then. When I have sold 6 - 7 year old BMWs they always state they can't sell them themselves as they are too old.

I was of the same impression - so something new to me also!
Perhaps they are cars they feel they will sell easier for a decent amount versus trading off for next to no money for what they are worth.

Risking a thread hijack, but what's the kind of price for my 2005 2.2 roadster with 90k ? Just curious to see what value you guys would put on it.
