Z4 2.0 questions

Hello, been looking to sell my 118d for a z4 for a couple of months now. Test drove a 2.0 today 08 plate with 20k on the clock! Nice car nippyish, but was impressed in the sound that came from the 2.0 engine overall.

Quick question though, sitting still in the car in traffic after approx 5-7 mins max of driving, i could feel something under the car jerking! Possibly the revs idling strangely but noticeable. Bit strange really, has anybody else felt this/know what it is/ is it normal. I know your basically sitting on the road compared to the 118d but just want your thoughts!

Cheers

Hi the 2.0 can have an eratic idle at tickover but mine does not have a jerky feeling underneath, sorry i cant be more helpful

Yep me too on mine - had it all checked over by BMW before buying it - they said its normal. Most people with a 2.0 have a slightly erratic idle for some reason. And yes they do sound nice when you put your foot down!!

Excellent does it just do it all the time or just when its warming up. Or are the revs at idle always undecisive lol.

Weird sensation though it feels like a slight rocking coming through the drivers seat lulling me to sleep!

I did have a very slightly uneven idle on my 2.0i, but wouldn't really call it jerky or rocking... just a slight sensation that the idle wasn't 100% steady... Adds character

Great choice of car & engine is you decide to go for it!!

Well my heads saying 2.0 but my heart is saying get a 6 cylinder. My wife is saying get the 2.0 as well. She is more sensible then me.

Just looking for right spec and right price at moment. But the main thing is i need to shift my motorbike. So any one looking for a triumph street triple 11 plate have a look in the for sale section buy it so i can get in a z

Go with what you can afford to insure and run. :)

The 6 cylinder is a sweet engine so you could always go for the 2.2 or 2.5 if funds and insurance will allow.

(Alternatively just by the 2.0l take the badges of and put M/// badges on - no body will ever notice :P)

Big no no with the m badges should only be allowed on the car that holds the engine in my opinion lol. I could afford to run the 3.0 but think i will just get peeved off lumping in fuel every day to cover my 50 mile round trip and the 2.5 seems to do the same mpg returns so might aswell have the 2.0 me thinks. Well thats sorted that out! How bullet proof are the 2.0 4 cylinders. I know the 3.0 will run forever. Any weaknesses?

Yep manifolds are a known issue, mine was changed under warranty. Other than that I've not heard of any common 2.0 specific problems & my indy said they are a really strong engine & shouldnt have any issues...

Sold mine at 79k & it felt as tight & smooth as when I bought it at 30k
