Z4 2.0 ltr sport 58 plate wanted

Hi guys, my son is looking to purchase a Z4 and we have short listed a few to look at. Values seem to be all over the place from 6k up to 8k [private sales] dependant on all the usual, from mileage to service history etc.

So what is a very good condition 58 plate 2.0 ltr sport actually worth. Mileage is at 35000 with history, car looks to be in good condition from the pics.

Looking for a ball park figure, before we travel quite a distance to view.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Tom.

Also anyone thinking of selling, going for the smaller engine because my son is only 24.

Have you had insurance quotes for the 2.0/2.5/3.0?

You might find the bigger engines could be cheaper to insure. My policy dropped by 20% when I upgraded from a 2.5si.

If he wants a 2.0 then great, but worth checking if otherwise.

Welcome by the way :)

If you have searched for 2.0s you will have noticed the Z market is flooded with them & as a buyer you are in a strong position
Jmo but if you can buy a 50k 06/07 2.5 for around £6k (which you can ) then a similar 2.0 should be under £5k :o
The 2.0 Sports do offer a cheap way into facelift Sport ownership but the downside is they aren't 6 cylinders

Its not all about power  also to consider is reliability( 2.0 having some rep for manifold issues ) future saleability & of course driver enjoyment of a fine piece of Bmw engineering in the straight 6

Manifold issue was on my mind when suggesting the 6cyl.

Even a 2.2 might be worth looking at, not much more power than the 4 pot, but M54 reliability.

If you want an E85 (facelift version post 2006) go for the Sport - 2.0i Sport as it comes with M sport extras (steering wheel, sports leather seats, m sport suspension and wheels). There were some very nicely finished specials in 2008. Go for heated seats (manual are ok but if heated they are generally electric as well). Parking assist is a help when reversing. Cruise is nice as is uprated sound system.
As mrwilks has said the market is flooded with 2 litres so you can hold out for your preferred colour and options if patient .
The 2 litre does have issues though - cracked exhaust manifolds and engine warning lights due to over sensitive sensors (which can be an irritation and hassle). Find a good specialist and they'll be able to weld the exhaust and buy a code reader (cheap on ebay) and turn off the warning lights yourself (when you've had them checked of course!)
35000 miles is low so it will inflate the price but you'll be surprised how little servicing might have been done (should be every 2 years but with that mileage sometimes it can be as little as 2 services due to mileage based servicing). Check tyres (they are as expensive as the 6 cylinder Zeds, same size - a staggered set of mid premium tyres can be had for £90 fronts each and £120 rears. Make certain all the usual maintenance issues are ok as even the 2 litres are effective and capable sports cars so brakes particularly need to be in good condition - fluid changed every 2 years (cheap at my independent specialist (£20 + £6 fluid) and so on - there is a good introduction to the Zed and what to look out for on this forum - see the introduction (sticky) posts.
Ask if there has been any problem with the roof motor - they are about £300 for the motor and at least £200 pound extra to be fitted. We all use a guy up here who relocates the motor into the boot for £80 making the issue of roof motors corroding due to water, redundant.
Maintaining the Zed can be surprisingly affordable with the right Zed, the right contacts and through the forum. Get your son to read through the posts on the forum as there's lots of info on here.
I had a 2 litre first and loved it but do look into the 6 cylinder versions as they can be nearly as cheap to run, are more desirable and more easily sold on - especially true of the 3 litre. As already mentioned the 2.2 and 2.5 can be found cheaper.
Good luck with your search - when your sorted get your son to join the forum
How much are they asking for the 2008 2 litre? Even at 35000 miles I would want to be around 6K or less.

Went to view the car this evening. Travelled from Warrington Cheshire to Alfreton derbyshire.
Car was in excellent condition, mileage was 30,000, full dealer history and the usual suspect items had been done under warranty.
Split rim wheels in need of a full refurb so offered £500 under the asking price of £8240 and my offer was declined.Correct me if im wrong but at £7750 private sale that is a very good offer.
Time to look elsewhere i think.

Did the right thing, 8K is strong money even at those low miles.

Got to agree with mr wilks here, the 6 cylinder cars are much more of an event to drive-they make the 2 litre cars sound & feel much more ordinary and are much more durable as well

2.5 ltr is the way to go.

My son has inquired about insurance and although more expensive its the way to go.
I did own a E46 330 m sport coupe and it was a fantastic car to drive.

Right next question, is there different model versions of the 2.5 ltr. Some adds say 2.5si, some say 2.5 se. Would appreciate some guidance from all you knowledgable people out there, and thanks for all the help so far.
Do like this forum.........might sell the tvr and get a 3.0ltr m-sport convertible of course.
