Hi,
Does anyone have a Z4 N46B20B 2.0 2007 exhaust manifold for sale?
Preferably without any cracks in it? :D
Thanks,
Ian

I can't help with that I'm afraid, but I am looking forward to the write up when you change it. :D

Morning John , sorry to see that you might be having more problems...while also looking forward to another of your write ups, let's hope it is more about speedy economic solutions than 'woe' . I have the same year and model of z4 and was aware of the cracked manifold issue - I have my fingers firmly crossed. Other more established forum members will I am sure offer advice on suppliers / breakers.

Hi again John, trying to to be a little more constructive...post from 2012 in this forum indicate bmw were well aware of problem and were replacing with an upgraded item, not sure if that is still available. View from other forum is that a second hand part might just go the same way and that a decent coded welder might be a good / better option and perhaps last longer.
Be interested to see how you resolve this

Hi Paul,
Welding is a route I'm looking to go down (hopefully). The car is in on Monday for the guys to take a closer look. It's a very small blow just now and not currently a big deal. I still think it could be the gasket to be honest but they don't think so. However, we all know what happens to little things ..... before you know it you're on the hard shoulder of the M6 with lorries flying past three feet away.
Mounting the CATs on the manifold is surely a daft idea? I guess it was designed to get them as close as possible to the outlets but it's bound put stress on the tubing and welds. Thanks BMW. Another brilliant plan.
I love the little car and I knew it had stuff to sort. So I can't really complain. I plan to keep it longer term as a fun vehicle so I suppose getting it right makes sense.
I'll let you know the outcome.
Ian.

That's great Ian, they certainly are fantastic cars but problems like this can sour things a tad. Surprisingly I have just read a post that suggests the later 2.0 e89's suffer something similar, not hudtce85s then. Jave you even dared approach bmw for a solution? Might be expensive but give you peace of mind.
Paul

Hi Paul,
I'll see how I get on next week. Hopefully someone who is clever with a welding torch will be the solution. For now, at least.

Very sorry. Couldn't resist. And to be fair, your previous write up was one of the best inputs to the forum for quite a while.

I’ve never heard of cracked manifolds on 2.0 e89’s, have you got a link? :?
Rob

I hadn't either rob when looking at pros and cons of e85. Read it this morning when looking again in response to Ian plight. It was mentioned on another bmw forum, will see if I can find it. Not seen it before so might be a very isolated issue if at all. I had been thinking about an upgrade to an e89, yours looks great

I got my 2007 e85 2.0i back this week having had the exhaust manifold welded. I lived with the problem for 9 years but it was only a small crack and only produced the fault code P0420 when I’d done a long run (not very often) and things had got hot and expanded. I had various garages try to identify the issue causing the fault code and no one came up with the cracked manifold. It took MIke at The Zed Shed a matter of minutes to identify the problem and he sorted the welding which was so much cheaper than buying a new or even second hand manifold.
Good luck with the issue.

Hi there Mike, thanks for sharing your recent experience. It really helps to know that there are people out there who are able to resolve this problem. Am I right in thinking Zed shed are South west / Winchester ish area ?

Sorry......not that Zed Shed but The Zed Shed, St. Helens Nr Warrington. The manifold had to be removed to get at the crack and as it’s stainless steel specialist welding is required (TIG I believe). Good luck with finding someone in your area to carry out this work if you go down that route.

Result. The manifold is back in one piece. A weld on the join with a CAT was broken. Fixed by a man with a mask and a very hot implement.
But.
There’s a real issue with parts if you’re not so lucky. Basically it’s a second hand one from a breaker (Quarry Motors were great and had one on standby for me) or a genuine part at nearly £1k. Ouch.
Lucky escape this time.

Hi Ian
That's great news, good to hear this has been fixed and that quarry motors could have stepped in with a plan b for you. Out of interest what sort of price would they have asked for that, if you don't mind...

Hi Paul.
£275. And the guys there were super helpful too.
I did find another one that was £335.
It’s a bit of a worry that the aftermarket new options are so nonexistent though.

Thanks Ian, good to know you had some luck finding and buying a replacement (if it had been needed of course) . Best of luck with the car, summer is on it's way

Hi guys I'm having the same issue in terms of the code cropping up. Engine runs fine, apparently theres no crack on the manifold and I've had the head gasket replaced too. Any idea what it could be? Mines a 2008 2.0. Thanks.

Bit of a z4 virgin tbh and this thread was very much about the manifold issue...but if your having problems / have a code that you can ask for feedback on and suggestions on what to do next then I would start a new thread on part of the forum that would be most helpful to you. I guess the codes /fault you have might steer to you to a particular part of the forum...
Good luck
