Hi guys!

I've been searching the whole forum but I havent stumbled upon someone with a similar issue

But just recently purchased a 03 z4 3.0i with nav dsp and Bluetooth and I am able to pair the iPhone and make calls, but once I've called them I can't hear their voices yet they can hear me talk.

Ive been playing with the volume knob to no avail.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

They can hear u through the microphone on ur phone.
The iPhone 4 isn't compatible with the Bluetooth in the z4. The phone is too new

It's probably because you are still using the iPhone, so they can hear you but you cannot as you are nor holding the phone to your ear

You need to select the BMW bluetooth device once the call has started (on the actual phone) sorry, can't explain it better

Spot on Ranski can't think of a better way apart from you get a menu to direct the sound to which ever source will include the car id ( bluetooth wise )if you are paired

The source on the iphone4 during the conversation is the BMW and not speaker or iphone source
And im sure the car is picking up the sound because i called myself on another phone and when i tap the microphone on the steering column it clearly makes sounds

HMmm. probably too new aye? the iphone that is.

I have iPhone 4 on my 04 3.0 z4 with sat nav, Bluetooth system and it works fine.

And also iPhone4 on an 07 with Factory Bluetooth works seemlessly but no sat nav

@bobbert

have you tried standard Iphone troubleshooting ie a reboot for starters
and also clearing all pairs in car system and re-pairing the phone afresh

What's firmware are you running in your iPhone? Is you volume on you phone on full and that you haven't put the phone on mute.

Also have you got any cables plugged into headphone socket on phone, if so remove.

Super oDD =(

Im running the lastest firmware 5.0.1 and nothing's plugged into the phone at all. And itz on the loudest of volumes.

Ya and i've repaired and unpaired the phone a few times now

Maybe theres just a connection problem.

A SIghzz

sorry to be pedantic but have you removed ALL pairings from car end old new and anything else ?

Bluetooth does not work with the company Blackberry now, but when I first had the car three years ago it did for over a year and then stopped. The Z4is a 2004 3.0i.

Since then i have tried a Blackberry ear piece whivh works fine away from the car, but does not work when in the car. Why is this, do I need to turn off the Bluetooth in the car??

Any sensible suggestions???

Thanks for the advice guys!

Yup re: pairings I've unpaired and re-paired many many times.

I think theres a larger issue here. I think I might have to go to the dealer and ask em aye?

Really pedantic now
NOT un/repairing the two devices
REMOVE all pairings in the car Bluetooth there is guidance in the Communications booklet how to do it
repeat not a pairing exercise but in effect zero the cars Bluetooth to nothing it clears out any residual old pairings

+1 My car wouldn't pair at all until I did this and others have cured problems by clearing out all the old pairings. It "shouldn't" make a difference but it does.

I had the same problem hence my emphasis

Hello again guys

Yup I've deleted all paired devices many times. Thats where i hold the voice button 3 seconds, turn ignition to 1 and keep holding for further 3 seconds to bring on bluetooth pairing. And then I hold the voice button 10 seconds and then it says paired devices deleted.

BUT in the instructions it says im supposed to hear a tone, but I never hear the tone. Is the reason I can't hear voices linked to that??

HMm I've tried it with other iphones but it doesn't work as well. I just need to find an oldskool phone with bluetooth. BUt atm i can't find one. ARgh!

Just checked manual and yes that is the procedure ( apologies for doubting you but description didn't sound like you were clearing.)
Yes should be a triple acoustic signal and not hearing that along with not hearing callersI would think is definitely linked

Looks like plan B ......the Dealers :(

I have a variant on this problem... I can make calls from my iPhone 4s and everything is peachy, however when I receive a call and then swipe to answer they can hear me but I can't hear them. I know the phone is paired and connected to the BT unit so I am confused.

When I make a call the option for routing appear - car, handset, speaker. This does not happen after I have swiped to answer a call. Is there another way I should be answering the call that avoids this issue, i.e. with the steering wheel button ? Or is it related to the fact that I have my iPhone set up to lock after a number of minutes ?

I haven't cleared all the other pairings, so will do that in the morning, but any other guidance greatly appreciated - ta !
