Z3, Thoughts???

The Z3 cabin IS DEFINITELY less draughty/windy/blustery whatever you want to call it than the Z4. No debate just a fact.

That's just not the case at all and as for FACT !!! your talking rubbish FACT

Found this not windy in the cab of a Z3 ?

Don't get that in my E85 Z4 without the wind deflector

Look mate I had a 2001 2.2 Z3 and drove it from Durham to Essex and back mostly with the roof down on most types of road from Bs to motorways.

I now have a 2003 3.0 Z4 and have driven the identical route. Both cars have genuine wind deflectors fitted. The Z4 is a far superior car in many ways and I love it to bits but the Z4 cabin is significantly more turbulent at most speeds than the Z3 was. Every passenger I have comments on this too. I noticed it the very first time I test drove a Z4 - stands out like a sore thumb to anyone who has lived with a Z3 for any length of time but it didn't put me off in the slightest. The heater was hotter on the Z3 too though not as different as the windy cabin. :driving:

Ok MATE i had my Z3 for 4 years and i found just the opposite my 06 3.0si is far less windy in the cab than the Z3 and iam 6'1 so i think we should agree to disagree !

No need to shout dude. I see your Z3 was a '97 pre-facelift (mine was an '01 facelift) and your Z4 is an '06 facelift? (mine is a pre=facelift). Maybe some subtle differences there plus you haven't mentioned whether both of your cars had OEM wind deflectors or not.

Really odd how your experience is so different though as I found the difference very significant and can't understand how cars so physically similar could present such different experiences for the owners.

and this video where they have even had to add a deflector to the 'Front' windscreen of a Z4,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqUUZnvubwY
now why would they do that? and why do so many people ask where to buy one?

My 06 has sports seats are they a little taller than standard seats maybe that's it i don't honestly know :?:

Pity your link doesn't work for me :( if you like the Z3 so much why are you driving a Z4 :? Or are you saying I am lying about my experience in driving both my Z3 /Z4!!!

I'll join the debate. I had a 2.8 Z3 when they first came out, followed by a 3.0 two years later. Followed then by 2 E85 an E86 and an E89.

The E86 definitely had the least turbulence in the cockpit .

Seriously, Z3 had way more buffeting than the others. E89 is really quiet in comparison.

I loved the 3.0 Z3 though. Plenty of power in a tiny car. Mine was an Individual with extended leather. Loved it! :D

Doesnt help that they have a perspex wind deflector at the back, trying to compensate for that probably.

If you can afford it and you have the spare time to look after it, you will find the Z3 hard to part with. It's an easy car to work on and generally well made as you would cxpect a Bmw to be. Of course it has it's faults, but these are not usually to do with the engineering. The mesh wind deflector works well making it a joy to drive with the top down when our English weather allows.

The 2.2 is a strong engine and given proper maintenance, will last for a long, long time. The rear suspension is a little agricultural, but that can be sorted if you desire.

You will find it a drivers car and is satisfying to own if you do your own mechanics.

We have enjoyed two Z3s and still own the second one, a year 2000 2.0L Individual in Mora Red. Dakar is a colour that suits the car well and is quite rare.

Post some piccies if you decide to buy!

lighten up, I am saying that many people on here seem to have the opposite view. So are you saying we are all lying by that same argument?

By the way after a Z4 and a Z4M, I am back in a Z3 because I wanted to buy a house.
Why be so aggressive? :P

Lighten up ! fine i will lighten up my Z4 E85 06 is less windy in the cab than my 97 Z3 end of ! and if you don't agree with that iam sorry

Come on Guys, either way, both cars are fun to drive with the top down and that is what it is all about.

With regards to the 'discussion' over which has the windiest cab, we have the OEM wind deflector on our Z4 E85. The only problem we have experienced is that unlike our Z3, there is a gap between the wind deflector and the car, which lets a draft through on the back of our necks.

We may be oldies, who don't drive as fast as you youngsters, which is perhaps why the turbulence in the cockpit is not such an issue.

Well said sir  like you said who cares I've had both and loved both for different reasons

We had a Z3 and a E85 Z4 side by side for 3 years with wind deflectors on both.. ,
My wife and I both commented about how much colder the z4 cabin was, and how the heater didn't seem to warm it up as much. It was hot at the vents but the middle of the car/ lap area was cold.
Everywhere we went she had her hands in front of the vents...
On colder days she used to ask "can't we take the Z3....?

Ha you could put a nuclear reactor in my Z4 and my missus would still be cold:D:D:roll:

The 2.0 z3 we had was the facelift model ,maybe the earlier model had more cabin turbulence when traveling at motorway speed.
