Z3 question

A friend in my local BMW CCA Chapter recently bought a cream puff 2000 Z3. It has the Harmon Kardon stereo system installed. Between the seats it appears that there is a removeable top/lid type thing. The owner hasn't removed it fearing that it really doesn't come off and in an effort to do so may damage it. Will anyone that knows for sure tell me if this top/lid is one that can be removed etc? Thanks.

Thinking back to my Dad's Z3 there is a compartment there, with a push button to open it in a flip up fashion....but, is it the Sub for the stereo if it has the HK upgrade ?

Pull straight up.

The Z3 had several variants of subwoofer or storage and with and without roll hoops. Roll hoops and sub woofer has nothing under this piece 9except the sub). To remove it, pull straight up.
