Z3 2.8 1999 68k miles 3 owners

this car has been advertised locally - went to have a look - all seems okay - no evident rust - inside boot fine - right engine/ right colour - mileage checks out - front and rear bumpers will need spraying - no damage / scrapes but off colour - usual story present owner has had it for 3 years but doesn't use it - willing to take £3650 and put a new MOT on it - not a lot of money - if I bought it I would spend around a grand getting the bumpers done , alloys refurbed etc . what do you think ?

Many do like the Z3 , thought i did until i tried one for a few months , just way too dated inside ( think early Jap cars ) , outside ( rear end wears its years like a smokers wrinkles  ) & how it drove :o just felt like what it was :tumbleweed: a aged roadster that handled like a Grimsby trawler if you tried pushing it :( sorry but they haven't aged as well as a Z4 imo .
That said the front end has a certain appeal & i do appreciate certain ones in certain colours with certain wheels , forum guy "Joycey" has tweaked his ladies to perfection , its a gem but i can't recall seeing many others ive thought the same off .
However if you like it don't let my thoughts put you off :D  :P

Nice car. I like it. I've owned two Z3s in the past, an early 1.9i and a late 3.0i so have a bit of a spot for them. If you buy it then sell the alloys and fit some of these in 17"

Nearly bought a 2.8 Z3 before I bought the Z4, found out it had been an insurance cat D so left it alone. At that money it looks like a safe investment to me the bigger engined ones seem to be on the up.

I'm selling mine if interested. Looking to get back on the ///M bus.

1999, 2.8, manual, 83k, steel grey, FSH, Insp 1 (June), new wheels and tyres (June), MOT until Aug 2019, DAB Bluetooth headunit, leather sports interior (electric and heated). Bodywork incredible as I had a dentmaster take out any small dings. Looking for £4300.

Drop me a PM if interested.

I like them, Mrs smartbear had a particularly nice 2.2 sport with an individual interior 8)
Look out for the soft top plastic rear screen though, only the oem roofs can have a replacement zipped in & pattern roofs need to be replaced in order to replace the easily damaged screens :o

I was interested in this car only because it's red ( and a 2.8 ) - having said that your car does look stunning and anyone not bothered about colour would love it.

If I had the space I'd keep her myself. Still in two minds to be honest and with the work I've done in the last two months, would lose a bit of money.

But a vintage Beemer saloon or M is calling and the call is too strong!

Not sure what Mr Wilks is going on about :) of course its dated they're from the naughties with underpinnings from the 80's but the great thing is its from a time when there were few nannying aids to spoil the fun :)

Loved mine and had it 8 years, still the best looking Zed, if only BMW would produce somethng similar today instead of the bloated Z4 :(

If you go for one check the boot floor for rusty pop rivets, if they are it means the floor could be cracked so worth checking, along with noisy Vanos and driveshaft clunking. Only issue I ever had with mine is the loom failing where it goes from the rear wing into the boot lid.

I would have another and miss mine.

Only thing I would add Gov is the one you're looking at isn't the Sport which had the better seats, MTech suspension etc, but obviously condition is probably more important now with these cars, few have been looked after.

Tim.

Smartbear's interior looks the dogs  and TitanTims profile pic above - wow
However I saw a bog-standard one in Sainsburys car park and was totally underwhelmed.
Never been behind the wheel but Mr Wilks assessment is telling, after all he's hardly a Zed novice

I've never really thought about one, but after looking at these photos I quite like them. Especially the one in gov's link - must be the HellRot paint! :)

Did you drive it OP? If you did and you liked it how wrong can it go really?

I appreciate they will drive like a car a generation older than the Z4, but maybe that has a certain appeal in it's own way. At least there won't be EPAS or RFTs!

Shame we never got the 2.8i version of the Coupe in the UK - I might have been tempted to try one of those!

Was it, I thought the European one was a 2.8i? Maybe it changed on later ones. Still, either way the M was the only Coupe that made it to the UK. :(

Never driven one but love the looks.

If space and money was no issue then id love a Estoril M Roadster in the garage.
