original guvnor said:I don't think Roadster sales declines are much to do with models like the Evoque. That is an effect not a cause. It's more to do with people not being able to afford the luxury of a weekend garage queen in these austere times (many of these Z4's are - just look at us lot as a representative example).
Hence why it is cyclical. When the economy picks up so will Roadster sales. It would be a bit foolish to stop making Roadsters now, just as the world economy is showing signs of doing more than just flat-lining. Perhaps a replacement model will be delayed a year or two until a clearer economic outlook emerges.

Bought SECOND HAND by a lot of enthusiasts as a cheap, light, affordable, tuneable, easy to fix RWD car.
Bought new they are mainly bought by/for women and the majority are non enthusiasts who just want a wee soft top for posing in. They don't give a toss and most don't even understand RWD or know/care how many ponies are under the bonnet.
If it is front wheel drive won't that mean a transverse front engine which would mean no straight six. Would be a big shameAdamski said:Keeping it aimed at mass market will make the Z2 a more attractive development than another Z4 evolution.
Rear wheel drive is a must IMO, but I can understand why FWD would be an option.
I think as long they have a big engined model at the top end of the range it'll be great

A transverse straight 6 is possible - Volvo have done it. However, the Z2 isn't intended to replace the Z4, it's a junior model based on the new 1-series/Mini platform & is intended to compete against smaller (& cheaper) competitors. Therefore, a 6 cylinder isn't necessary, not when you have the ?28 turbo with 245bhp!Zeld4 said:If it is front wheel drive won't that mean a transverse front engine which would mean no straight six.
