Z issue, anyone had this?

A rather bizarre 'thing' happened when I took Inty for a run last Saturday... Upon coming home from a good drive I dropped into 3rd to overtake a chap on his Vespa and once I slipped back into 4th there was a strange 'crunch' sound and my trip computer turned off! As I changed gear again the trip came back on... I haven't taken her out since so I do need to get back in the girl and see if it happens again but this is certainly a first.
Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry quite, coming from the gear box region. Sounded like a bad gear change! I have the window down so couldn't hear it as clearly as I would have liked.
