Had our Youview box for about 3 months now along with the fibre optic broadband - well impressed with the HD quality . all the catch up channels and recording facility but changing channels is driving me nuts - it takes forever just flipping through the channels - annoying pause of a second or more between each channel. Am I doing something wrong or is it supposed to be like this ?

Modern STBs are slow - they have increasingly commoditised hardware and a lot more is done in software than it used to.
I'd expect a couple of seconds for channel changing; just check it isn't waiting for the 2nd/3rd digit to be input (normally you can press "OK" or similar) to force it to change. 5 seconds or more then yeah, probably worth raising it with the manufacturer or your ISP.

Thanks for that - just discovered that this is deemed to be normal 
Fortunately I've kept my old freesat Humax box connected to a different HDMI - I'll use this for normal viewing and keep the Youview for catchup and recording - bit disappointing really - wasn't made aware of this problem before I upgraded to Youview but then I suppose you wouldn't expect them to tell you when they're trying to sell you something !

I think on hindsight I should have gone for BT as I believe they use Humax - the time it takes to change channels with the talktalk box is annoying and frustrating
