subbed! apologies for long post, slow day at work..
i know nothing (jon snow) really, but i waste enough of my life watching people on youtube and i've made a handful of videos in the past, so take my comments as you wish:
a gimbal would likely help no end, or perhaps the new stabilised go-pro (+ mic) mostly because of the camera shake. It's certainly not all about the gear, but having good steady/smooth moving video and less wind noise will just make everyone complain less. One thing i learnt as a kid messing about making videos was that everything has to be much slower, and much more stable than you realise - to just make it watchable. as an example ... nobody REALLY cares about your dog bed, but you mentioned it - so let people see what you're talking about

Likewise you talked about wheel styles - so insert some slow panning footage of the wheel so people know what you're talking about.
some guys operate with a cue card/agenda pre-prepared, might help when you first start to get a rhythm.
that said - you're not awkward and you're not putting on some 'TV voice' (see JayEmm, experienced pro cameraman with tonnes of videos but i still find completely awkward on camera). Also, you're northern so you can take banter - which means i can tell you not to wear deep-V tshirts on camera, or wife beaters
in this vid at the end ( https://youtu.be/CAi3Jpzlub4?t=557 ) most youtubers will do another take just to get it right - fix the camera shake, nail their ending lines, make sure start-stop is turned off in advance and fix the wind noise. you've got all the right ideas - i bet it's just a case of practice makes perfect.
Do you have a plan for getting access to cars to continue making vids?
