Would love to do a repeat of what I did last summer, a few weeks after getting my Z I booked a week of work and packed my tent in the boot. First day left Buckinghamshire and blasted up to the Isle of Skye. Spent a day there then headed all the way up the west coat of Scotland using the coastal roads as much as possible, got to the top then headed back down through the center of Scotland to the Cairngorms. Then down to Northumberland, stayed next to Kielder waters, then home. Did all that in 6 days, covered 1700 miles and 90% of it with the top down :D Was nice not having much of a plan, just drove until tired then stopped at the next campsite. I had amazing weather nearly the entire time.

This is the route I did last year.

The route over the Brecon Beacons had a fantastic (even in the wet) switch back. The Harbour Master restaurant in Aberaeron is great, the Elan Valley is worth doing twice and you need to remember the Evo Triangle on the A5 on the way home.

But as the Pyrenees are closer can't see me driving it any time soon.

We set off at 9:00 on the Saturday and made it for lunch in Aberaeron. We stayed over in Aberystwyth on the Saturday night and headed home via Snowdon and the Evo triangle on Sunday. Fantastic weekend even if it rained almost the whole time. We were home by about 5:00 on the Sunday.

4 days? Wimp :P :P

I did 607 miles in one day to celebrate 2013 summer soltice.

I have a couple of wee trips planned.

1)Heading up north with my dad in Feb its mostly to visit family In Stockton on Tees but we take the car round the coast for a blast, Whitby, Redcar etc and stop off for photos on route.

2) 9th May - 12th May its our third Eurothrasher trip and we are revisiting Wales, details to be confirmed yet but if like the last Welsh trip it will be awesome. The first two trips were featured in PBMW

We will probably also have another Euro trip later in the year.

That point C, would that be where Bonny prince Charlie escaped to Ireland?

Fabulous roads, especially from Skye to Loch Ness... have they sorted the pot holes yet?

OP, you go right past my house on that route.
Can I suggest when you get to north wales drive over the suspension bridge over the Menai Straits then along to Beaumaris then turn round and go back over the Britannia bridge then pick your route back up.

Thanks Carol, I'll certainly consider it, time permitting. It looks like being an early July trip at the moment !

I just sold a set of 108,s to a forum friend who did 600 miles roundtrip so you need to shape up

My best ever mileage is leaving home in Lancs at midnight & landing in Argeles sur mer at 8pm the same day :driving: 1070 miles in a Mercedes 220 estate with 2 nippers in the back

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah ! ....but I am planning on doing a few things on the way round, not just driving all day. I'll have my 12 year old with me who doesn't want to just sit and watch fields go past the nearside wing mirror.
This for instance, is one of them ... http://www.zipworld.co.uk/what-to-expect/

Apart from that , I'm now stopping off at Carol's too !
