Your thoughts please .....

Ah, it's BMW AUC! That makes more sense now.

The owner thing really doesn't matter; honestly. Unless you plan on selling after a few months - In which case you may be better off with less previous owners; I don't know.

Im not sure what to do, do you think it will be a better idea to wait a month or 2 when prices may drop a little?
Ive seen some of the prices dealers pay for there cars and then what they sell them at, ive seen as much as a 6k margin !!! :o
I know they spend some money prepping the cars but thats crazy !

My advice would be to not be worried about looking privately, too. Most of the cars you'll find privately will be in better condition than an AUC car, because most people with a Z4 Coupe will be an enthusiast.

Hi Adam.

I have sent you a PM. This sounds very much like the car i recently sold back to BMW, my old Phoenix Yellow coupe. Is it the same car? If so i will happily tell you all about the car.

Mark

The number of owners would never be anything that would put me off. My 3.0 Z4 has had 6! All the servicing is up to date, the car is totally straight and well looked after – it was the best of all the ones I looked at.

As has been already mentioned, often the first owner is less than 6 months (pre reg, demos etc) and with a two seater sports car they are also a frivolous expense to many who will move them on after having some enjoyment out of it, or realising they need rear seats and a bigger boot again.

Much better to buy a car on condition than on variable that make no real difference to how the car will actually be.

Hi Mark ive replied to your PM its not your car though.

Im still on the look out for one seen a nice jet black with red leather im trying to negotiate on..........

I will keep you posted, and thanks for all the input

Oi, not just Z4 Coupes! I do know what you mean though, likely to be more non-enthusiast posers buying Roadsters...

I'm probably in the bottom 5% of folk on here in terms of what I paid for my admittedly old Z4. That wouldn't have been possible if I'd gone down the AUC route. Perhaps buying a 4 year-old (at the time) Z4 privately will come back to bite me in the ass, but I certainly could never justify the extra premium an AUC car commands. My advice to the OP, get yourself on Pistonheads classifieds and restrict your search to "private only" and see what comes up :)

Yeah i have been looking private but then i would have to sell mine privately or sell to a dealer for a poor price. When i worked out the cost to change selling mine to dealer and me buying private it works out the same sort of figures as me just buying form dealer.

I have tried selling private but had no real interest

Im sure i will get sorted, maybe prices will drop a little with winter approaching (probs not the best time to buy a rear wheel drive car lol)

my car has had a number of previous owners, but its dwarfed by the number of private plate changes on it, i think it has worn over 8 different plates in its life! bottom line is if the car is right for you go for it, worry about owners or resale when you have to sell, which will hopefully be a long time away. if you wanted to be sensible you wouldnt be buying a z4 in the first place.

probably a bit different for me in that as its an older model i wont lose as much in depreciation but if you get £20k worth of "joy" as bmw put it then whats the harm!

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude, honest! :) Just there are quite a few Z4 Roadster owners that buy them just for the convertible aspect (and the badge).

Hi,

Not picked my car yet but just agreed a deal on it - have PMed OP with details (didn't want to put all the details on public domaine till I actually buy it!) so hope it helps.

LOL I forgot the "" - I was only jesting. You're quite right though, more posers buy roadsters than coupes, unfortuantely for us enthusiast roadster owners :D

Good luck!! Exciting times. Kind of wish I had negotiated more but was just too excited to get approved for the finance!

That said, I must have had well over £2,500 in repairs made so at least the warantee was a sound investment...
