Your first car . . .

This was mine:

For a 22 yr old in the early 80's this was my dream come true - a 2-seater sports car. Living with my parents meant I could just about afford the loan, running costs and insurance, but left me completely broke.

2.0 litre 8 valve 4 cylinder.
It wasn't a convertible, but had a full 'webasto' sunroof
103 horses blasted it to 60 in 11.3 seconds

I had a Volkswagen Golf 1.3 Ryder. J474 CUC in Helios blue.
It was immaculate, low mileage with the double headlights.

I loved it and drove it to college everyday. It unfortunately met a sticky end with an A reg Honda accord in 2005 when I was driven into by the dopey tart on the wrong side of the road.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of it.

Wyldie85 - just find an archive pic of a similar golf in the same colour as yours, the pic I've shown isn't my car but is identical in every respect, same great metallic bronze TR7 I owned :)

Mini 1275 gt. This one is almost identical as mine yellow group one arches. Engine weighted & balanced rc40 exhaust was very quick wee car. Bought it from a mate when I was 16 & built it up for me turning 17. Cost me a fortune to insure even in 1987. Wish I had kept it now. 95bcbbf105a111c495d9632f195c186f_zpszjd4hz2d.jpg

Escort Mk1 OTC 308K.

Bought for £50... 2 new doors, RS2000 alloys and complete respray in white..

Ace car.... Used it and sold it for £350...

Vauxhall Viva with a white fur dash - the glove box lid hung down broken like a mutts mouth. . . .it was an awful first car - had all me tools pinched out the back of it one night on the street, it kept breaking down - hence the tools - and it got me to the coast (13 miles) and back on one charge of the battery every night until the dark nights when I used to do the last couple of miles on one sidelight  . . . . .£80

Pug 205XS it ran on 3 cylinders and had knackered brakes. First car i modded first car i loved and the first car i striped the engine down on.

A whole 85bhp stranded i think i got a few more than that. twin 45s planed and gas flowed head. Lowered big wide wheels and new brakes. My mate had a 1.6 GTI And mine got to about 60 before his and then i had nothing!!!

Sold it to a guy when i brought my second car a Calibra. He didn't Tax it and the council crushed    I was fuming when he told me i would have brought it back and stored it.

Nova 1.3 SR Glacier white with alloys - G895 ECT bought from Boston Lincs. I have pics, but they're all prints, so here's an identical example I found on t'interwebs:

Loved that car.

Citroen Saxo VTR - 1.4i Import, with VTS interior & extras. (Irish Import)

garage_vehicle-104-12342024581.jpg
Car cost £1,995.
Insurance for first year cost £2,200.

Like most Saxo VTR owners, I inevitably wrote it off.. While driving down a hill in the snow. :headbang:

You can't actually tell from the pic, but the front passenger side is pretty much gone. Front wheel snapped in half & the driveshaft smashed into the gearbox which then broke the engine mounts which caused a shed load of other damage.. Live & learn, eh! ;)

Still miss my VTR's.. A basic enough car that even I could get my hands dirty working on it!

Oh OK
Austin 1100 in Trafalgar blue
Bought for £450 in 1978 after I passed my test. It was 9 year old and I think it had about 34k miles on it
Can't believe I put spots on it - but I was only 17!

VW Derby aka a polo with a boot

MLH653V

1.3 gls in silver with black velour interior

Crap brakes with no servo assistance

Managed to seize engine due to its appetite for 5 litres of oil every couple of weeks

Smoked more than a gambler with a bad habit

The water pump which was alloy got soo hot it welded itself to the block so I scrapped it

Gold Opel Manta 18s Berlinetta. Loved it. Dunno if I have any pics tho. Will have to have a rake in the loft.

Ford Corsair 2000E Silver Fox Black Vinyl roof 1967 E reg.

Bought at 16, I never got to legally drive it on the road  some dick parked a stolen car into the back end while being chased by the police.

1st legal car at 17, Vauxhall Viva SL90 White 2 door 1967 E reg ( DTV stickers) Dealer Team Vauxhall
It was 1974.

Ford Corsair 2000E Silver Fox Black Vinyl roof 1967 E reg.

My dad bought a Corsair, and we couldn't find the petrol cap - took it to a garage to get fuel (in the days when a man came out and did it!) and he didn't know where it was either
Turns out it was behind the rear number plate which was on a sprung hinge

Passed my test asap & paid £995 with ins of £350 :o oh how times change
Renualt 5 Gordini ( non turbo) , was 17/18 & only had it 6 months but myself & mrs w went all over the dales & lakes in it  quirky car but i loved it , very happy days :driving: Manta 2.0 SR Berlinetta followed

1967 MKII Cortina 1500 in lagoon blue with rubber mats on the floor but a 1600E wood dash!

Bought it in 1976 and it was hanging! Plenty of filler, 2 radial tyres and 2 crossplies, indoor water feature in rear footwell when it rained (until I took the rubber bungs out of the floor) but I added 2 banded 6.5 inch rear wheels, GT badges (and a reconditioned gearbox).

But it was my first car so still remembered with some fondness.

Probably should have kept the plate - PJJ1E - but thankfully only kept the car 1 year!

Mine was a 1964, 875cc white Hilman Imp with red leather trim and loads of chrome trim. The registered was AJV 739B which I bought in 1975 with 54k on the clock for the grand sum of £80. No photos to share, just the fond memories.
