You guys with a coupe...

Interestingly hardly anyone has mentioned the practical benefits of the Coupe and the extra boot space. Being my only car I'm not sure I could manage with a Roadster, particularly having a girlfriend that likes to take the entire wardrobe. No chance of doing a road trip around Europe in a Roadster for us!

er, do you mean couldn't manage

but you are right, nobody ever mentions the extra space

Anyone who says they think the coupe is better because it has a bigger boot/ cargo area should go get a skoda estate
Jeesss louiiiseee

It was designed as a Roadster, so therefore the Coupé weighs more with the roof & extra bulkhead, rear glass, etc.

I've no doubt it's probably urban myth, but I'd read somewhere (quite possibly on here) that Chris Bangle set off to design a coupé but the BMW marketing department told him it needed to be a soft top - therefore it came out first while he had the chance to fiddle and perfect the design in time for a facelift and a Coupé.

Probably lies, but why spoil a story with the truth when there's yet another coupé vs roadster debate :poke: :)

Personally i would have got a coupe if i could find one in the spec i wanted... however found my car; with its imola and anthracite interior and i had to have it!

Also mine is my only car and i have had no problems in terms of boot space.. managed to fit a rug from ikea in it - on the passenger seat roof down.. the coupe would never have fit that it!

The Z4 was a Roadster from the outset - of course it was designed to replace the Z3, moving slightly upmarket - though Bangle and Adrian Von Hooydonk have both said in interviews they always wanted to do the Coupe version, as they felt the proportions would work well. Overwhelmingly positive feedback at the Frankfurt Motorshow in 2005 to their concept got it green lit. It's interesting to see how much the production car changed, interestingly I think it's a rare occasion where the real thing is better than the concept?

as with all designs they inprove things, thats why the coupe is far better than the roadster :)

Has much changed from that photo apart from the concept there has a pre-facelift front bumper?

It's like playing spot the difference :D

Doesn't seem to have changed much from the concept - facelift bumper, silver lights & grills, wheels as you say.

Playing i-spy in the garage just now could only spot a few badges and a stubby difference!
