The politics of distraction, designed to make your average citizen regard people like this as the cause of the nation's problem. Politicians of course are more than happy for such people to take the blame. Nothing in that story suggests that his claims for benefits are illegal, so we should instead be angry with those who have allowed our benefit system to be abused in this way.
Would it be any different with any other party in power? Probably not. It suits government to have an uneducated and dependent population, whilst those at the very heights of power enjoy taxpayer funded lifestyles that would make this man look like a street urchin. Remember the MP's expenses scandal, with people saving hundreds of thousands by flipping their homes, or charging the taxpayer the cost of heating their swimming pool? Do you think that these people are suddenly living modest lives? Of course not.
So every time you read about people such as the man in this story, or see programmes on TV (like the 'shoplifting show' the other night) ask yourself what the media agenda really is.
