Yokohama AD08s on 18" rims

Having been impressed with the AD08s on my track car, I'm thinking of getting a set for the Z4 which is running on the standard 18" rims.

However, the front tyre size (225/45) doesn't seem to be available. Has anyone gone to 235/40 on the front? 235/45 seems to be about 1% bigger whilst 235/40 is 2% smaller (circumference). Just concerned that if I go "taller" on the front I may get an unappealing "squatting down at the back" stance, whereas going "shorter" might introduce a bit of rake.

Alternately if anyone knows where to get 225/45 18 AD08s (I'm looking at Camskill) then please let me know. George Polley's website seems to be down -- I believe he's still the importer?
 
id like to to try some AD08s.... full tread depth too.....

im trying to find something more extreme than a pss but less extreme than a cup tyre and the cost that comes with it.... is the ad08 my tyre??? id move into the 888 but im trying to move away from 5mm depth tyres.... they are killing my already dead bank balance....
 
I have a set of Avon ZZ-R on the M - new control tyre for the Lotus championships, and proving faster than the old control tyre the A048. Not really a competitor to the AD08 as they are a full on track/R compound tyre, but better than the R888 in my view, and seem to have more tread.

I had to go to 225/40 on the front as they are only available in a very few sizes. They work fine but they do "look" a bit small. I think 235/40 will be absolutely OK, but will probably still look a little small in the wheel arch.

Edited to add I would personally be surprised if the AD08 were any more "extreme" than the PSS - I'd expect the PSS to be equally fast. It "looks" more extreme I agree ... ;)
 
AD08s only available in W-rating. Is this likely to be an issue bearing in mind the limiter is at 155 mph? I think my Vreds are Y-rated.

Everything i've read suggest that in the dry the AD08 is the faster tire. The PSS is more rounded i'll give it that.

To all, I've got the AD08's on stock 18" wheels. I had them in OEM sizes as well which the first time I got after a special order with the Cypriot Yokohama representative. You can get the stock front ones from Ears in the UK (I've order a set of rears and another set of front at a different size from them, more on that later). http://www.ears.co.uk/index.html

So far i've used stock sizes all around and the latest is 235/40/18 front and stock 255/40/18 rear. The difference in driving is negligible between the two front tires as far as i can tell. Maybe some less understeer but that could just be an improvement in my driving, i do not claim to be able to extract 100% from the car yet and i also do not claim to be the world's fastest driver either.

The reason i got those fronts was because while i ordered the stock ones from Ears after a couple of weeks of hearing nothing from them i emailed asking whats up with my order only to be told that they're not in stock and they're trying to find them... after another couple of days they said they could get the 235/40's at the same price which i said yes to. Keep in mind that on my previous order of rear tires everything went quickly and efficiently. I ordered them from the UK instead from locally because the importer only gets stock every couple of months and the AD08 are always on special order... I just couldn't wait that long. Even with the expensive shipping the price is roughly the same too.

As a tire i adore them. They're grippy as f**k and for MY use the perfect combo of street/track tire. They wear quickly yes but as long as i can afford them i'll keep mounting them or equivalent tires.
 
Wanted to add that i got some rub on the fronts with 225/45/18 when used with my 12.5mm spacers. Have to use spacers to fit the BBK behind stock wheels... They rubbed on those small plastic protrusions inside the wheel arch.

Thanks, I'll contact Ears to see if I can get some in the correct size.
 
Did you call them? I think the new compound AD08 R's are coming out at around this time as well!
 
Not yet, I got a price from their website and thought I would give George Polley a bell at some point. Need to get them sorted in the next month or so.
 
Couldn't get the AD08R in the right sizes (and I've no experience of them) but I got a set of AD08s fitted today, including what I suspect might be the last pair of 225/45R18 fronts in the UK.

Even covered in mould release agent they seem pretty grippy on the road. Will try to scrub them in over the next couple of days.
 
I think you'll like them! Just be mindful of standing water. I'm gonna order AD08R's for my next change in a few months.

The track car (Saxo) has performed better in standing water than I expected. We've had a few wet events and never felt we need to swap out for the Uniroyal Rainsport wets. Hence fitting them to the Z4 -- I thought something like an R888 would be a step too far for a road car.
 
I've not found that but I tend not to press on in standing water anyway. Can't be any worse than the bald Vredesteins that they replaced. :D
