Yet another I'm sure controversial subject (Sanctions)

I think that if we feel we need to care for everyone (and i am not sure that i do) it isnt fair that people that dont work have better lifestyles than people that do but get low wages what ever nationality.

I understand the annoyance and I agree that we are being taken advantage of by a small minority. Work should always pay. I just can't see a way to exclude the scroungers while supporting the needy. The feckless are needy, their children are blameless and must be given the same chances as any other child.

Until the majority are prepared to see homeless children being sold on the street we are going to have to keep coughing up. It is a rubbish system but the alternatives are worse. imo.

its a huge vote loser - it will never be tackled

i personally think there is a gap between where we are now and a point where we need to see selling children and would like to see it closed, maybe a start point is means testing and food tokens
but a contributary social security system works around the world and is fair, and it allows the safety net to be smaller and more focussed, and some people would and maybe should fall outside of both scenarios

It's a tricky one, I'm sure when you do the sums there are bigger drains on the economy than the work shy scroungers, but unfortunately you go to any run down area (and some not so run down ones) and you'll see people sitting, smoking, watching Sky TV during the day, with no intention of ever working. Seeing that sort of thing is a big demoraliser for those of us who work for a living, so no wonder it brings about more emotion than the tax avoidance of the rich, as it's on our doorstep.

Slight change of theme, but I've just found out I'm getting TUPE'd across to another company. My reward for 24 years constant work for the same company since I was 16? I lose non-contractual t&cs worth £600 per month. Not sure quite how I'm going to swallow this. Not helped by losing Child Benefit payments last year whilst a couple earning way more than me can keep it. Currently feeling quite beaten up by the world and wondering what I've done wrong! :headbang:

Anyway, back on theme. I think we all pretty much agree that we should provide support to those who genuinely need it but it's what to do with those who don't want to work that's the problem. I favour getting them out and doing something as this is constructive in many ways and creates an ethic which is often (but not always) sadly lacking. I also think there are lots of jobs out there (not enough to go around granted) but those without a job don't want them.

......its the work shy, Jeremy Kyle watchers that we should do something about. !
Errrrm I resemble that remark, I watch jezza at work during a break :poke:

Off topic a bit but....ive got a day off work to re-grout the ensuite and Jeremy Kyle is on in the bedroom (didn't put it on, it came on after daybreak!!) and a large girl came on slagging her dad off for not have anything to do with her for 26 years. She said that he could have contacted her at any time by finding her on the "electrical register"

I rest my case
