Yes He Has * US Elections

Just glad it's over - fed up of all the hype and build up.

Just a thought - exit polls showed 97% of blacks voted for Obama. Just shows skin colour is still a big factor - sad.

Well...they want their "free sh@t" that Obamaroma gave them the first four years. So now more taken from my check to support them. I'm not happy with the choices we had, just tried to vote for the "lesser of two evils". Glad the crap is over.

As an American that is conservative with very libertarian leanings. I can say It's been a horrible political cycle. And it's been that way for a while. When the norm is to favor votes by only pointing to your opponent and say what evils they will do if you vote for them. As opposed to what you are going to do. I think it is a terrible way to form an opinion about how to vote.

For Sars. The problem lies in how you get your information and how the media portrays it. I.E. Romney clearly stated that his comment about abortion was his opinion. That's it. He went on to say that he had no intention of challenging Roe V Wade. Yet the media forgot to air that. The media then went on to claim that Romney's main agenda was to repeal abortion. And hence the war on women got it's start. The president in America is not a dictator. And does not have the power to change such things. That is the responsibility of Congress. Yet the women of America bought the line from the left and really thought that Roe V Wade was in danger. It never was. But. It certainly helped the lefts cause to have the ladies "think" so.

The part I fear is economic. The class warfare so to speak. Most middle class and lower folks in America really think if the government takes all the money from rich people. The debt problem will be solved. It won't. But again. It was convenient for the left to have the folks think that was true. The truth as always lay somewhere in the middle. One of the biggest self fulfilling fiscal black holes we have. Is the fact that most voters will always vote for the one that promises them the most of someone Else's money. I'm not sure about the good folk of England. But I can't recall the last time I was employed by a poor guy. Deductions and tax havens do need to be looked at and worked on. But again. The media has repeated the mantra of. "the rich are to hated and vilified" And soaking them for everything will "solve all our problems" Well! It won't. Because money to a politician is like heroin to an addict. If they have it. They will use it. And not wisely either.

I really think the best way to reform politics is to totally do away with political donations. It should be made into law that during the big federal election cycle that media companies are required to provide free and equal air time to all. They can then take the donated media time and declare that as a write off against profits.

  I agree but I am so sick of political ads I would place some reasonable limit on the amount of time given.

I also believe that anyone on welfare or otherwise receiving federal government assistance for more that 6 of the previous 12 months would be ineligible to vote for anyone running for a federal office including president.

==or otherwise receiving federal government assistance==

Only the rich should have a say in society?

That is one way to keep the underclass disengaged.

While I wouldn't agree with denying welfare recipients the right to vote. I think the sentiment is this.

When the government robs Peter to pay Paul. The government can always count on the support of Paul for said robbery's. Even if Paul knows it will hurt the economy.

That was also the impetus behind the 47% statement by Romney. Which is true. 47% of Americans do not pay any income tax. Those are votes the democrats can count on. So it's all down to the 2-3% of the people that are independents. Which is why the media ran with the war on women strategy. They scared just enough ladies to swing it to their side.

Me being the sort that leans libertarian. I want the government to do what it is required to do according to the constitution. Which only amount to 3 things. The Money supply, Defense of the borders, Judicial system. The rest according to the 10th amendment is to be managed by the several states. If the feds want to obtain more power. Let them convene a constitutional convention to alter said constitution after the several states vote on whether the feds can have the power that they are requesting. That's how it is supposed to work.

I thought that was what was being suggested. I have never visited the states, I couldn't critique the politics without making wild guesses. I can doubt the generalisation that people only vote in their own interest, neglecting to consider the needs and rights of their fellow citizen.

I suspect that democrats and republicans both think their party has the best plan, and the best plan is one that benefits the most people. They just disagree on how to do it.

People vote for aspirational reasons and Obama hasn't been poor enough to tip people into the 'want a change' mindset. The economy is the overriding factor, jobs, security, healthcare, those matter. I find it difficult to believe that anyone votes for inflation and recession. Although presumably both sides believe the policies of the other lot carry higher risks of disaster.

In the UK it was the authoritarian left that overspent, in the US it was Bush. The fact that you cannot trust one outlook or the other to remain fiscally responsible leaves you having to rely on trust and character.

China seems to be doing better.

Just to clarify... $5 trillion in debt was added under Obama. Bush also added about the same amount to the debt over 8 years as Obama did in 4 years. Obama also plans to add about another 4 to 5 trillion over the next 4 years... :o
However, the budget in the US is the controlled by the House so they share the blame as well. We the people voted these clowns into office. I say vote all incumbents out of office. But we won't and continue to complain. We are all liberals when it comes to getting stuff from the government, and then we are all Republicans when it come to paying for the stuff. If I told you I was taking away your government benefits I wouldn't get your vote, and if I told you I was raising your taxes I wouldn't get your vote. The only way a politician in congress gets re-elected is by spending Government money at his/hers district and then telling people that they won't raise their taxes.

Interesting to hear the opinions on here, but for the love of whatever I have a polite request for people to stop saying "Obamaroma", "Obaminator" etc, it's childish and not funny anymore. Thanks

What a poor choice the American people had before them yesterday. Two deeply flawed candidates.

If the Republicans had picked someone who didn't look smug or wasn't prone to making ridiculous gaffes Mr Obama would've been packing his bags. The Republican party needs to have an inquest - it needs to have broader appeal and ditch the fringe Tea Party loons too. Obama reminds me of Blair - treated like a messiah on election but actually just a soundbite politician with no substance and a lot of bulls**t.

Sorry, but it wasn't meant to be childish or funny. I know how he impacted my life during his first term and didn't want it to happen again. No one knows how it affects a person unless that person has been through it.

Here is some interesting exit polling data.
most people said they voted for economic reasons. Yet the majority of people polled said Romney has a better grasp of the economy.
a majority of men voted for Romney. Women voted for Obama. Hence my statement earlier about the imagined "war on women"

I've never seen such weird data. interesting though.

Quite telling that all countries (except Pakistan - no surprises there  ) wanted to keep Obama. Think the stock markets might have had a wobbly today if the result had been different.
From USA Today... :(
4:28PM EST November 7. 2012 -

NEW YORK — Stocks ended sharply lower Wednesday, one day after the re-election of President Obama. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down about 313 points, or 2.4%.

Investor reaction is decidedly negative over the defeat of the more business-friendly Mitt Romney and the continued gridlock in Congress that makes it tough for lawmakers to avert a fiscal policy crisis by year-end.

The benchmark Dow remains below the psychologically significant 13,000, not seen since Aug. 3. The Standard & Poor's 500 index and Nasdaq composite index ended down 2.3% and 2.5%, respectively, with stocks in nearly every industry lower.

If you Brits want to see how messed up politics is right now. Look at JFK. A president universally loved. Especially by democrats. As he was a democrat. Now look up his policies and what he did. He lowered taxes (personal and corporate). He supported a coup in Iraq, He was the first to send large amounts of troops into Vietnam. He authorized the Bay of pigs invasion of Cuba. JFK was the first president in our history to submit a budget that had a non-war, non-recession deficit. When asked to stop a dam project from flooding Seneca Indian lands, JFK said no. By the standards of today. JFK would be run out of town by the liberal media and called a radical right wing tea party type. My, My. How the times have changed.

The american obsession with the Kennedys has always been baffling to me.

Leaving a girl to die in an air-pocket in a submerged car has to be the most despicable acts any politician has ever come up with in their private life to protect their reputation. If the dynasty is capable of forgiving and or covering that up they are capable of anything.

JFK is only revered by the sentimental.
