Yellow oil light on after car turned off?

Got back from my first "enjoyable" drive since buying the Z and solving(hopefully) the leak. I pulled in to the drive, turned the car off and then got a beep followed by a yellow oil light. Checked the oil level and it's absolutely spot on.

What's going on now chaps?! :| :x

how long did you wait before checking the oil? need to give it 10 minutes at least after turning the engine off.

in my case, it meant it needed a small top-up. about 300ml's.

Hmmm, I've seen this problem a lot, it can be a non genuine sensor was used, and it's too sensitive, and I don't really know why else... All I can think of is that a spirited drive leaves a lot of oil all over the place, when you first turn the engine off the sensor (in the sump) reads the oil level in the sump as not being too high, so it flags it up, within 15 minutes, a lot of oil runs back down into the sump so your reading is normal, and low and behold, the sensor has gone back to "OK".

dipstick presumably so must be something else. I remember reading that the sensor responds oddly to elderly oil. not that i believed it but maybe you could do a search on multifunction oil sensors just to be sure?

Thanks guys, driven the car since and some of it was certainly spirited yet the light never came back on. I will just keep an eye on it and if it comes back again I will try replacing the sensor just.

Hi Phil, I just brought my Zed 4 weeks ago and it did exactly the same thing. I changed the oil and it worked fine and never happened again. So question is when was your last oil change? Like the other guy said might be some weird reaction to old oil.

Hi mate, actually the last oil change was 10days ago! With brand new Mobil 1 oil. Drove the car a fair bit today and no sign of it again yet. Very odd. Glad you sorted yours!
