Yellow EML. No power. Little throttle response.

Yeah Ronk. When they keep mentioning numbers for the DME unit, it's £ 1820 - 1960 + VAT (One opo' mentioned £ 2800)
for the DME alone. Plus labour plus diagnostics etc.

I’m genuinely shocked at that price.
What worries me is you say that there’s been no shock to the system like jump starting etc - so why has it gone kaput? ( if it indeed has)

Exactly the question i keep asking  and need answering, once understanding i will let them proceed with any work

It is concerning that a fuse was blown when the new battery was connected, did the AA guy connect any back up supply when he disconnected the old battery?

I’m curious about this in general, if the AA guy did connect a back up supply and connected it at the battery end, rather than under the bonnet, would this possibly cause this issue with all the electronic wizardry at the battery end.

Part of my curiosity is if something like this is why we are advised always to attach our trickle/battery chargers/jump leads to the posts under the bonnet?

OP, I hope they get to the bottom of this and you get this sorted and it’s not at the figures you’re being quoted

Can’t you source a used dme & get it coded to your car by an independent specialist? I know that’s not an option a main dealer would choose but it could save you a bundle of cash :?

Rob, I believe you changed your battery recently, did you connect up a back up supply when you removed the old battery ? I have just ordered a battery and will install the new one next weekend but reading what has happened to the OPs Zed has got me a little worried. 😕

If it can be narrowed down to the ecu then defo send it off to ecutesting.com before you shell out thousands. If it’s a simple power rail gone down they will be able to fix it. You really shouldn’t need to buy a new ecu.

I just changed it over with the car off & no ancillary items were running like the radio, the less electrical “splash” the better when replacing the battery leads, just had to reset the clock from memory

When I changed my battery the mechanic didn't use any back up supply. Just switched everything off and disconnected the old and reconnected the new. He did say sometimes when you do it this way something weird happens like the windows don't work for a couple of days but no issues with mine.

Before you spend all that cash on a new ECU I would want to know why the old one went Kaput or the same may happen again. If the dealers find it was the fault of the AA then they should pay.

The reason i called the AA man out for the battery was that the EML light was on and the throttle responce issue was already there.
He used a save pack that was plugged into computer terminal in the foot well.

Hopfully will get good news tomorrow. I am resigned to receiving a fat bill, Anything less will be a bonus.

What happened to the ecu they diagnosed as fried? Sounds odd that the oil has deteriorated so badly in 4months :?
Rob

Find out tomorrow hopfully. Good job i questioned the DME/ECU.

Oil, seems i have been stiring cold milk into cream with short run outs. Damn COVID killed my car :x

How often were you doing these short run outs?, How far were you going and how long were you out for, 3 months for the oil to deteriorate like that is astounding 🙁. Hope they get it sorted for you.

Amazing i know. A 1 or 2 mile each and every other day will kill your car. :(

While the engine is stripped down like this I would take the opportunity to have the timing chain guides upgraded👍
